Job Title: Mining Supervisor Reporting to the Mining General Foreperson, the Mining Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing operations in an open-pit mining environment. This role requires leading crews, ensuring safety compliance, optimizing operational efficiency, and maintaining high industry standards.
Responsibilities (including But Not Limited To) Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and manage crews ranging from 10 to more than 20 people in an open-pit mining environment.
- Identify and correct inefficiencies to improve productivity and operational performance.
- Participate in developing and executing work plans for mining and earthworks projects.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure adherence to BC mine health and safety guidelines.
- Lead toolbox safety meetings and promote a strong safety culture.
- Conduct incident investigations, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance with BC Mine Shift Boss Ticket regulations.
Operational Execution
- Oversee and manage crew lineups, timecards, and daily reports.
- Ensure work aligns with QC/QA management plans and survey requirements.
- Utilize GPS equipment and surveying tools to support operational accuracy.
Equipment & Technical Oversight
- Supervise and guide work involving heavy equipment operations.
- Work closely with teams to optimize the use of GPS and surveying equipment for efficient project execution.
Additional Responsibilities
- All other duties as reasonably assigned
The Ideal Candidate Education / Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Holds a BC Mines Shift Boss Certification or a BC Mine Supervision Certificate
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Experience / Skills
- 2-5 plus years of supervisory experience in an open-pit mining environment.
- Strong understanding of BC mine health and safety regulations to ensure compliance and workplace safety.
- Skilled in leading toolbox safety meetings, effectively communicating safety protocols to crews.
- Experienced in conducting incident investigations, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
- Proficient in developing and executing work plans to drive operational success.
- Knowledgeable in managing crew lineups, timecards, and daily reports for accurate workforce tracking.
- Proven ability to supervise crews ranging from 10 to 20 or more personnel, ensuring efficiency and productivity.
- Adept at identifying operational inefficiencies and implementing strategic improvements.
- Hands-on experience in operating heavy equipment, providing guidance and support to operators.
- Strong understanding of QC/QA management plans and surveying processes to uphold project standards.
- Skilled in utilizing GPS equipment to enhance precision in mining operations.
Work Location & Conditions This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
Compensation The expected hourly rate for this position ranges from CAD $52 -56, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
