Harvest has an immediate opening for a Senior Geologist , reporting to the Team Lead, Subsurface. This is a permanent position based out of the Calgary Corporate Office

What we are looking for:

Our ideal candidate(s) will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Minimum of a BSc. In Geology with 10 + years of relevant experience
  • Member of APEGA
  • High ethical and work standards.

Our ideal candidate will also:

  • Be a responsible Member for Geoscience under Harvest’s APEGA PPMP
  • Be familiar with oil and gas geoscience techniques (mapping, facies interpretation, well log and core analysis interpretation, sample and core description)
  • Possess a thorough understanding of clastic sedimentology and stratigraphy, including, but not limited to: facies and facies distribution, sedimentary structures, sequence stratigraphy, depositional patterns of esturine and fluvial environments, core description, core analysis
  • Be a skilled user of Accumap and Microsoft Office. Ability to use Petrel, Geolog, and other current computer applications
  • Be experienced in horizontal drilling and oil sands SAGD mapping, development and production.
  • Have basic geophysical and petrophysical skills and knowledge, and the ability to apply them in support of geologic work
  • Have the ability to understand and use geomodels built by others
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse personalities/functional groups

What you will do:

  • Geoscience work on assigned assets (geological mapping, cross-section construction, open-hole log analysis and reserve calculations)
  • Utilize SAGD production data (recovery, temperature, pressure) and 4D seismic to refine geological interpretation and mapping; use it as a basis for collaborating with production engineers on reservoir optimization strategies (steam splitters, inflow control devices)
  • Provide recommendations on potential drilling or recompletion opportunities
  • Contribute to management of Harvest’s PNG holdings, including expiry notices, offset notices, abandonment notices, independent operations notices, continuation applications
  • Contribute to geotechnical software license renewal and justification (Petrel, Accumap)
  • Contribute to multi-functional efforts such as abandonments, reactivations and recompletions
  • Periodically report preparation including statistical analysis, geological assessment and project summaries
  • Supervise operational activities including well-site geologists
  • Efficiently manage capital costs and project schedules.
  • Manage Geological and Geophysical data storage (United Datawyse, Iron Mountain)
