Job Description:
The Warehouse Solutions Manager of Manufacturing Engineering & Quality will lead manufacturing engineering and quality teams responsible for continuous improvement and growth of Warehouse Solutions product lines. You will use manufacturing engineering and quality principles to develop solutions for equipment, process, and product improvements. This role involves driving continuous improvement, managing the Quality Management System (QMS), developing capacity models, and contributing to the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) team.
Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Engineering :
- Implement lean methodology utilizing GEX (Gorbel® Enterprise Excellence)/Shingo principles.
- Develop and maintain capacity models within the ERP system and contribute to capacity forecast planning.
- Evaluate new technology and provide recommendations for key investments, including the introduction of robotics, co-bots, and other automation processes.
- Develop and maintain process flow and factory layouts.
- Collaborate with manufacturing production teams to develop preventative maintenance strategies, processes, and documentation.
- Lead identification, implementation, and budgeting of capital projects.
- Drive process improvements in process flow to identify and resolve bottlenecks, improve throughput, and increase quality.
- Manage engineering change notices and process specifications pertaining to manufacturing processes and material specifications.
- Ensure production equipment is capable and has capacity for growth; involves integrating equipment, people, material flow systems, and information systems.
- Provide manufacturing design and launch support for new product launches, product enhancements, and new business opportunities.
- Design, implement, and maintain tooling, fixtures, and processes to improve quality and throughput.
- Collaborate with the supply chain team to determine make vs. buy decisions.
- Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of material types, part features, machining processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, and quality standards.
Quality Assurance :
- Ensure all company products and services meet quality standards before they go to market.
- Understand customer expectations and needs, outline quality standards, and develop quality control processes.
- Monitor production standards, evaluate internal production processes, establish NCR processes, and produce statistical reports on quality standards.
- Collaborate with production, purchasing, and engineering personnel to ensure all products meet or exceed specifications.
- Perform and/or oversee incoming inspection of new products used in production.
- Prepare and follow up on Non-Conforming Material Reports (NCMRs) as required.
- Communicate non-conformances to production and purchasing and prepare vendor quality ratings.
- Suggest improvements to the ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics NAV) and understand BOM structures and routings
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, employees are also expected to complete other duties as required. All employees are expected to have familiarized themselves with the Health & Safety and Human Resources manuals, including their responsibilities as outlined in each.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- 7 or more years of experience in manufacturing engineering and quality assurance, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of successfully managing engineering and quality teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in using quality management systems (QMS) and manufacturing execution systems (MES.)
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical engineering drawings, schematics and specs for drawing review, approval and producibility.
- Ability to generate detailed work instructions from mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.
- Proficient user of ERP systems and Lean/Continuous Improvement techniques
- Previous experience using Microsoft Dynamics (NAV), an asset.
- Proficient user of MS Office, with above-average skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to support multiple sites.
- Ability to travel to vendor, client facilities or other Gorbel locations with moderate –low overnight travel, (up to 15%), if required. (Domestically and internationally)
