The Opportunity
Our Project Management office is growing, and we are now looking for a talented individual with a dynamic background including years of both engineering and project management, to step into a senior position with the potential to progress into PMO Management. We are also open to applications from those who are already PMO Managers/ Leads, who think they could step into the position at that level initially. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for all aspects of complex projects, ensuring that the project team meets schedule, budget, quality and safety requirements. The successful candidate will lead teams, prepare project plans, manage project budgets and schedules as well as be involved in engineering, procurement, fabrication of equipment and commissioning of plants. Reporting to the VP, Projects and Services Delivery, duties will include but not be limited to:
- Effectively manage project teams, build credibility and trust, whilst mentoring junior technical contributors.
- Mentor and assist junior Project Managers in the fulfillment of their duties, as needed.
- Oversee development and control of project plans, budgets, schedules and costs, and ensuring adherence to systems and standards.
- Facilitate client interactions and other stakeholder relationships to ensure smooth project progression and successful delivery through excellent communication (written and oral).
- Develop and maintain a high-level understanding of water treatment processes applicable to the mining industry.
- Have a broad technical aptitude and be able to communicate effectively on technical topics across multiple disciplines and with tradespeople.
- Write and review technical documentation including project reports, change documentation, and engineering deliverables.
- Participate in the preparation of process design documentation, as needed.
- Plan project delivery by efficiently allocating resources and manage changes to meet project demands.
- Oversee and manage change, including cause and effects between disciplines and requirements to manage impacts to projects technically, financially, resources, plans, and schedules.
- Conduct post-project evaluations to capture and communicate lessons learned, and continuously improve systems, processes and tools.
- Provide feedback to line manager on engineering deliverable execution and internal engineering processes.
- Be based in Vancouver with occasional travel to project sites around the world – about a week every 1-2 months, but occasional trips up to 2-3 weeks may be required.
- As needed, contribute to the development and improvement of project management processes, systems, tools, training programs, and project management KPIs.
- As needed, contribute to the creation and execution of corporate improvement (internal) projects and initiatives.
- Any other duties as requested.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Bachelors’ or graduate degree in engineering or equivalent certification or experience in construction management.
- Project Management Certification is an asset (PMP ideally, CAPM considered)
- Registered professional engineer with EGBC is preferred (PEng)
- Minimum 8 years of full-time Project Management experience in multi-disciplinary engineering projects
- At least 5 years of engineering experience prior to, and in addition to, PM experience
- Experience with mining projects is an asset
- Experience with wastewater treatment plant implementation projects specifically, is a significant asset
