SFU’s Institute for Neuroscience and Neurotechnology (INN) is a collective of distinguished researchers and educators who work together across disciplines, institutions and industries to drive progress and innovation in neuroscience and neurotechnology. Our members are passionate about cultivating the INN as a hub for meaningful research collaboration and community engagement. The Research Assistant will play a critical role in the implementation of the INN’s Brain Resilience Study, a prospective study of British Columbians that aims to understand both the biological and social factors that influence resilience in aging. In line with SFU’s commitment to open science, study data and resources will be shared openly to maximize impact of the study. Reporting to the Lead Principal Investigator of the Brain Resilience Study, the successful candidate will be responsible for study team coordination, data collection, and initial neuroimage data processing. The ideal candidate understands the collaborative nature of research in large teams, is an open and transparent relationship builder, and demonstrates initiative.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate study team members with respect to data collection, equipment tracking, and other day-to-day study operations
- Manage participant recruitment, scheduling, and communication
- Train new study team members on data collection and management protocols
- Neuroimage data (MRI, MEG, EEG) processing
- Manage and maintain research protocol documents
- Liaise and maintain strong rapport with study team members, including trainees, informatics team members, external research partners, and study supervisors
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Science, Health Sciences, Psychology, or equivalent)
- 1-2 years’ experience in a research lab environment
- Experience working with human research participants an asset
- Experience in neuroimage processing an asset
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills
- Excellent problem solving, time management and organizational skills
- Ability to learn research computing skills
- Ability to work independently and contribute effectively to diverse team settings
This is a 12 month appointment with the possibility of extension.
