About the role

PURPOSE

The Manager, Security is accountable to the General Manager for safety and security of all employees, tenants, third parties and general public as well as protection and safeguarding of company’s tangible assets and organizational reputation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Security Daily Operations
    Oversees, assesses effectiveness of daily operations and provides feedback for corrective action. Inspects and manages the security contractor and their staff in all aspects of daily operations including staff selection and on-boarding, employee performance feedback, staff scheduling, staff training, approval of time worked and contractual invoices. Overall management of the security contractor to ensure that the security services are provided in their entirety and in professional manner accompanied by adherence to the company’s policies and procedures.

  • Security Systems
    Provides input into decision-making concerning the choice of a security system for the property, monitors effectiveness and reports on performance of the property’s life safety systems and compliance with the applicable Codes.

  • Security Risk, Prevention and Accident Investigation
    Actively partakes in all risk management related matters at the property including specific security related risks, property insurance claims, security and insurance claims investigation as well as prevention of security deficiencies. Coordinates work with police and law enforcement authorities where required. Analyzes property specific security related statistics and prepares action plans where necessary.

  • Security Budgeting
    Provides input in operational budgeting process where it concerns security expenditures (including capital projects) to ensure uninterrupted effectiveness of the security program at the property.

  • Security Resources
    Recommends and manages additional security resources for coverage of events, traffic control, addressing parking concerns and policing of the interior and exterior of the property to ensure sufficient level of security support is maintained at all times.

  • Security Record Keeping
    Keeps thorough records and logs pertaining to the security contract and contractor activities, incidences and investigations, life and safety systems etc. to ensure that complete information is available, when required, for decision making of the senior property management staff or other activities to protect interests of the landlord or the owners of the retail centre.

  • Security Policies and Procedures
    Maintains thorough knowledge of current law enforcement, security and privacy legislation and requirements to ensure all security personnel stay current on legal requirements and are highly trained and prepared to address any arising security concerns at all times.

  • Industry Knowledge
    Maintains up to date awareness of emerging industry trends, legislation changes, criminal activity and security related training. Implement new courses and practices as required. Maintains continuous liaison with security provider for employee status, available training/courses, updating of Standing Orders, scheduling, uniforms and other related items; maintains and builds solid relationships with Tenants, Contractors, Stakeholders, City Officials, Community Leaders and Authorities with Jurisdiction in the respective properties; attend conferences, join related committees & foster affiliations with industry groups with approval of The General Manager.

  • Any other job related duties and/or projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education

  • Minimum 5 years of related working experience
  • Community College diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in the security area at a retail shopping center
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current law enforcement, security and privacy legislation
  • Working knowledge of Crisis Management, Emergency Response and Risk Management
  • Solid knowledge of security systems, CCTV and Radio Communication Systems
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications and Blackberry.
