The Corporate Services Department – Information Technology Division is looking for a temporary full-time GIS Technician for approximately two (2) years.

Responsibilities Reporting to the Manager, Data Services, you will support the City’s corporate GIS using Esri’s ArcGIS platform. In this role, you will create and maintain spatial and attribute data, prepare maps and reports, perform spatial analysis, respond to information requests, write, modify, and test GIS scripts to generate or access data, participate in the development and implementation of GIS workflows, and provide end-user support and training as required.

Requirements You will have completed a diploma or degree in a related discipline supplemented by completion of an advanced GIS post diploma program. Related work experience, preferably in a municipal environment; considerable knowledge of Esri’s ArcGIS Platform (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online); relational databases; programming languages such as Python; and in-depth cartographic proficiency, are required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Strong SQL language skills and experience working with ArcSDE geodatabases, AutoCAD, and FME would be definite assets.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge.

Compensation $37.58 to $44.22 per hour

(Pay Grade 21 – January 2024 rates)

Hours of Work

The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every three-week scheduling cycle.

To meet operational needs, this position can be scheduled any 7 consecutive hours between 7:00am and 11:00pm, Monday to Friday, and may also include an occasional shift on weekends or evenings.

Additional Information

For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
