We are currently recruiting for the following role in our Calgary office:

Assistant, Corporate

Legal assistants at Bennett Jones provide important support to the Firm and its clients. Our legal assistants are assigned to work within a team of highly skilled lawyers and other legal assistants. This role will support 3 lawyers.

Essential Functions Responsible for clerical, administrative and general office duties, as well as Corporate Department administration support, including:

  • Accurately drafting, proofreading and formatting various legal and general materials including documents, spreadsheets, reports, memos, presentations, forms and other items
  • Building a positive rapport with both internal and external clients
  • Maintaining records, filings and timekeeping
  • Handling of billing related accounting matters, preparing expense reports and preparing client accounts monthly
  • Developing and maintaining filing system and filing documents on iManage (DMS)
  • Administrative duties as required such as managing calendars and coordinating meetings
  • Knowledge of minute book maintenance and closing book preparation

Qualifications

  • Legal Assistant Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Commercial transactions
  • Strong knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
  • Self-motivated and responds to everyday tasks with little supervision
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality and discretion
  • Willingness to adapt to new and innovative technologies to improve efficiency and the value in our workflows
  • Strong technical aptitude and a natural problem-solver for on-the-spot troubleshooting
  • Keen attention to detail and superior organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to use innovative and legal technologies to fulfill tasks effectively and efficiently
  • Knowledge of legal and technical procedures in a high-pressure environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to continuously improve and learn from others
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Service-oriented and a willingness to help; have a team-oriented approach to supporting lawyers
  • Flexible and able to balance competing priorities
  • Enjoy executing ideas to create positive impact and work ethics
