About the role
Who We Are
Outliers Mining Solutions is a globally recognized consultancy specializing in mine operations optimization. Our team brings a wealth of experience that ensures our clients achieve measurable improvements in their operational output. In addition to our consulting services, we develop innovative software products designed to support and sustain the improvements in production and productivity. We are excited to offer an opportunity for an FMS Support Specialist to join our team and play a key role in optimizing fleet management systems that enhance real-time decision-making and operational performance across client mine sites.
About this role
As an FMS Support Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting Outliers’ Short Interval Control (SIC) methodology. In this role, you’ll make sure the Fleet Management System (FMS) is properly configured, validated, and optimized to deliver accurate, actionable data that drives better, real-time decisions. You’ll work closely with dispatchers and site teams to implement system improvements that unlock performance potential and ensure the SIC tool operates as a trusted decision support system.
Key Responsibilities
Configure, validate, and optimize Fleet Management System (FMS) data and setup to support Short Interval Control (SIC) deployment. Identify and resolve system issues that limit data accuracy, insight generation, or operational performance. Apply SIC tools and processes to support diagnostics, baselining, and continuous improvement phases. Collaborate closely with dispatchers, supervisors, and operational coaches to align FMS outputs with site priorities. Support the implementation and optimization of advanced FMS modules such as Auto Refuel, Park-up, Speed Tables, and Line-up. Provide consistent, high-quality technical support that builds client confidence and ensures system reliability. Monitor FMS data integrity and reporting accuracy to ensure information is actionable for real-time decision-making. Train and coach site personnel on best practices for FMS usage, configuration, and daily system checks. Work with cross-functional teams to document and share lessons learned, contributing to continuous improvement across sites.
Client Delivery Focus
Ensure FMS data is clean, structured, and ready for analysis within the SIC framework. Proactively identify and communicate system issues that may impact real-time decision-making. Support dispatchers and supervisors in using FMS data to drive plan compliance and rapid course correction. Build trust with clients through responsiveness, clear communication, and reliable technical support. Champion the connection between clean data, confident decisions, and improved site performance.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Fleet Management System Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with mining FMS platforms such as CAT MineStar, Modular DISPATCH, Wenco, or similar systems, including configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization. Operational Understanding: Solid grasp of open-pit or underground mining operations, including production cycles, dispatching, and equipment utilization principles. Data Accuracy and Analysis: Ability to validate, interpret, and translate operational and FMS data into meaningful insights that support real-time decision-making. Technical Problem-Solving: Skilled at diagnosing system issues, addressing configuration challenges, and developing practical, sustainable solutions in fast-paced environments. Collaboration and Coaching: Comfortable working side-by-side with dispatchers, supervisors, and site personnel to improve system use and embed better operating practices. Communication Skills: Strong ability to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, fostering trust and understanding. Adaptability and Learning Agility: Able to work across multiple sites, systems, and teams while continuously learning and adapting to new technologies and processes.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in mining operations, dispatch, or operational technology support. Proven experience configuring and supporting Fleet Management Systems such as CAT MineStar, Modular, Wenco, or equivalent platforms. Strong understanding of mine operations workflows, equipment cycles, and production KPIs. Experience supporting or implementing Short Interval Control (SIC) or similar real-time improvement frameworks is an asset. Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Excel for performance monitoring and reporting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across operational and technical teams. Degree or diploma in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred. Proficiency in additional languages such as French or Spanish is considered an asset.
