We are looking for a Manager, Taxation to join our team in our Mergers And Acquisitions Practice!

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manager – Tax Insurance Specialist to join our team. This individual will play a pivotal role in originating, structuring, and executing tax insurance solutions for clients across a wide range of industries and geographies. The candidate will leverage deep tax advisory expertise to assess risks, negotiate with insurers, project manage, craft bespoke coverage, and support clients navigating complex transactions.

The ideal candidate has a strong background as a tax advisor in either a law firm, accounting firm, or equivalent advisory environment, with proven experience in Canadian, US, or international tax matters.

Your day as Manager, Taxation

  • Deal Execution & Advisory

    • Lead the underwriting and placement of tax insurance policies on transactional and non-transactional matters.
    • Review and analyze tax memoranda, legal opinions, and financial statements to identify and assess insurable tax risks.
    • Develop tailored insurance solutions and negotiate policy terms with insurers.
  • Client Engagement & Relationship Management

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, including private equity sponsors, pensions, corporates, financial institutions, and legal counsel.
    • Present tax insurance solutions in the context of M&A, and/or other tax positions taken by clients.
    • Build and maintain long-term client and insurer relationships.
  • Market Development

    • Stay current on evolving tax legislation, case law, and regulatory developments impacting insurable tax risks.
    • Support business development initiatives by identifying new market opportunities and educating clients and colleagues on tax insurance solutions.
    • Represent the firm at industry events, panels, and conferences. (Travel as required)
  • Leadership & Collaboration

    • Provide support to the Representations and Warranties Insurance (RWI) practice, collaborate with colleagues across various practices and geographies to deliver integrated solutions.
    • Mentor junior team members, fostering technical excellence and client service skills.

Our ideal candidate

  • Education & Credentials
    • 5-7 years of experience as a tax advisor in a top-tier law firm, Big Four accounting firm, or tax advisory practice.
    • Strong transactional tax background, with exposure to cross-border or complex structuring preferred.
    • Prior experience in tax insurance, M&A insurance, or risk advisory a plus, but not required.
  • Skills & Competencies
    • Exceptional technical knowledge of tax law and risk analysis.
    • Strong negotiation skills and ability to structure complex agreements.
    • Excellent client-facing skills with ability to explain complex issues in practical terms.
    • Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
    • High degree of professional judgment, integrity, and commercial awareness.
