Position Summary:
Joseph Brant Hospital is undertaking a critical, multi‑phase redevelopment of its intranet – the organization’s primary internal information platform used daily by staff and physicians. The Web Content & Accessibility Specialist plays a key role across both Phase 1 (MVP launch and stabilization) and Phase 2 (content completion, usability improvements, and long-term sustainability) of the intranet initiative.
Working as part of a cross‑functional project team led by Corporate Communications, this role supports priority content migration, accessibility compliance, information architecture validation, stakeholder coordination, and the establishment of sustainable intranet content standards. The position evolves with the project – from supporting a safe, timely launch to enabling a well‑structured, accessible, and maintainable intranet that meets ongoing organizational needs.

The position reports to the Director, Corporate Communications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Intranet Content & Information Architecture

- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of intranet content migration across multiple project phases, from high‑priority content required for MVP launch (Phase 1) to large‑scale completion and refinement of remaining content (Phase 2).

- Support the development, validation, and refinement of intranet information architecture, navigation, templates, and page structures to improve usability and findability for diverse staff groups.

- Review, edit, and standardize intranet content to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and alignment with Joseph Brant Hospital voice, brand, and digital standards.

- Apply tagging, metadata, and categorization standards to support search functionality and content relationships across the intranet.

Accessibility & Compliance

- Ensure intranet content meets accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0/2.2 Level AA) and aligns with requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

- Review pages, documents, and media to ensure accessible structure, proper heading hierarchy, alternative text, and keyboard navigation.

- Provide guidance and support to internal contributors and subject matter experts on creating accessible digital content.

- Collaborate with vendors and internal partners during accessibility reviews, quality assurance, and pre‑launch testing activities.

Content Governance & Stakeholder Support

- Act as a key liaison between Corporate Communications, Information Technology, vendors, and content owners throughout Phase 1 and Phase 2 to coordinate content reviews, approvals, and updates under varying timelines and organizational capacity.

- Support the transition from project‑based content decisions to sustainable intranet governance, including content ownership, publishing standards, review cycles, and maintenance practices.

- Assist with onboarding and supporting intranet super users, including user guidance, documentation, and training support.

Project Support & Continuous Improvement

- Support intranet discovery activities in collaboration with vendors and internal partners, including stakeholder interviews, content audits, and validation of information architecture, page structures, and navigation pathways.

- Participate in sprint reviews, testing, training, deployment, and post‑launch optimization activities across both intranet project phases.

- Identify opportunities to improve content clarity, usability, accessibility, and consistency as the intranet matures from stabilization to long‑term operational use.

- Perform other related duties as required to support the intranet project and Corporate Communications priorities.

Qualifications & Experience:
-
Post‑secondary education in Communications, Digital Media, Web Content Management, Accessibility, or a related field relevant to the position.
-
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in digital communications, intranet or website content management, or a similar role within a complex organization (healthcare or public sector environment preferred).
-
Demonstrated experience working in a content management system (CMS); intranet experience considered a strong asset.

Strong working knowledge of digital accessibility standards, including WCAG and AODA requirements.

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a project‑based, fast‑paced environment.

Proven ability to manage periods of intensive activity aligned to project milestones and deployment timelines.

Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating with IT teams, vendors, and diverse stakeholder groups

Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.
