Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.
Position Overview
Are you passionate about helping people find stability and hope? We are seeking a dedicated Homelessness Prevention Worker to provide vital housing support services to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This role focuses on connecting people to the right resources, building strong community relationships, and making a meaningful impact every day.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the successful candidate will provide housing support services across Surrey, Delta, and White Rock, assisting individuals and families—including those with complex needs such as mental health challenges, addictions, or learning disabilities. Key responsibilities include assessing eligibility for programs and rent supplements, conducting mobile housing searches, connecting clients to community resources, collaborating with shelters, outreach workers, health authorities, and other stakeholders, maintaining program statistics and reports, and providing ethical, timely crisis intervention. The role emphasizes fostering strong relationships and partnerships to ensure effective, client-centered service delivery.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education in social services or a related field, or equivalent experience, with demonstrated competency working at the street level with marginalized individuals, including those with complex needs such as mental illness or addictions. They must exhibit empathy, strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while adapting services to meet client needs.
The role requires knowledge of community resources, de-escalation techniques, and safe care practices, along with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and data entry. A valid Class 5 driver’s license, reliable vehicle, First Aid certification, and flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and outdoors, are required, with additional assets including violence prevention training and a second language.
This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
