About the role

Overview The City of Kitchener is committed to the inclusion of children and youth with disabilities in municipal summer camp. Through the Every Kid Counts program, children and youth with disabilities receive support from inclusion support workers to assist with their participation at municipal summer camp.

As an Inclusion Support Coordinator (Summer), it is your mission to ensure that all children enjoy their camp experience! You are excited about removing program barriers and thrive in a fast paced and busy environment. You will oversee numerous support placements across Kitchener, ensuring that your team is equipped with the information, skills, and supplies that they need to provide the unique support required. You value inclusion and strive to ensure maximum participation. As a coordinator, you have a passion for supporting and leading a team.

  • Work is performed in a variety of municipal recreation spaces (e.g., golf course, community center, swimming pool, outdoors). May be exposed to body fluids and waste when assisting participants with personal care in washrooms requiring the use of disposable gloves. May be required to work with participants who may bite or scratch requiring the incumbent to wear protective arm guards. May be required to work with participants with physical aggression

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the coordination of the “Every Kid Counts” program a service for children & youth with physical, developmental & or emotional/behavioural disabilities following established procedures & accommodation plans.
  • Visits program sites to monitor program activities & ensures inclusion of children and youth with disabilities in programs.
  • Acts as a resource person for camp teams regarding inclusion issues
  • Assists with the support worker/participant placement process
  • Assists with the preparation & implementation of the inclusion support workers training program.
  • Ensures program policies & procedures are followed.
  • Prepares for & leads weekly team meetings
  • Fosters positive relationships with gaurdians, communicating & providing feedback on their child’s accommodation plan as needed.
  • Ensures proper record keeping of information, completes forms and prepares reports and evaluations as required
  • Actively develops, supports, and motivates 40+ inclusion workers
  • Provides staff support; gives feedback & addresses minor issues related to staff performance
  • Provides behaviour management and strategies.
  • Administers authorized medication to participants, noting details on appropriate forms.
  • Acts as a backup to inclusion support workers. Assists program participants with physical assistance and personal hygiene as required.
  • Provides first aid as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma plus up to 1 year of additional job related post-secondary education.

Experience

  • 6–12 months of related and relevant experience supporting and working with children and youth with disabilities, preferably in a recreational setting.
  • Experience supporting staff, including coaching, training development and mentoring.
  • Experience in program coordination.

Additional Requirements

  • Access to a vehicle for the full duration of employment.
  • City of Kitchener approved behaviour management certification (NVCI) post-hire.
  • Valid CPR Level "C" and Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Police Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector) issued after March 1 2026 upon conditional offer.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds unassisted
  • It is recommended that vaccinations (Tdap, MMR, chickenpox, Hepatitis B) are updated and current for the period of employment.
