Job Description: We are looking for an experienced professional to join the Sun Life Group benefits team as an Account Executive in Sun Solutions (Group clients with 50+ employees). As the Account Executive you are accountable for the profitable growth and retention of a portfolio of Group Benefit clients.

Working with the advisor community, located mainly in the GTA, you will be focusing on strong client and advisor relationship management and facilitating the delivery of best-in-class service.

You are responsible for successfully converting client needs and issues into opportunities and introduce solutions, where the solutions you bring forth help our partners achieve their business, employment and financial goals.

What will you do?

  • Grow the client portfolio on a profitable basis and provide overall management support
  • Foster and maintain excellent advisor and client relationships; providing resolution to issues presented by all stakeholders
  • Analyze, present and negotiate annual renewal actions
  • Support advisors by providing sound financial management and facilitate in the addition of products and service to clients that aligns with their goals and needs
  • Understand the client’s changing needs, provide advice and keep them informed of changes that impact benefit plans and promote Sun Life’s value proposition, products and services
  • Pro-actively manage projects, host and present to advisors and clients on a regular and frequent basis to establish strong relationships

What do you need to succeed?

  • Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle is required
  • 5-10 years experience in Group Benefits, ideally in a business development role, with advanced knowledge of group insurance financial management, technical arrangements of plan funding (insured, refund, ASO, pooling) and benefit plan designs
  • Strong business acumen, sales skills and understanding of underwriting processes and profit drivers is required
  • Leadership experience with a business owner mindset
  • Team-player with relationship building skills in order to work in partnership with the client team (Service Representatives and other internal stakeholders) to collaborate and deliver the best solutions for clients
  • Ability to manage a flexible work schedule and superior organizational skills for managing diverse client portfolio
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and principles, active listening, pro active inquiry and anticipation of broader needs
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Flexible work schedule and be prepared to travel as needed. A substantial amount of time will be spent meeting with Advisors. Most travel is done in regular business hours within a two-hour driving radius

  • Ongoing involvement in professional development and group industry events, Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) is considered an asset
  • Completion of GBA (Group Benefits Associate) is a strong asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
