About the role
Position Overview:
The Growth Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of key strategies, actions and operations to improve growth outcomes for the City of Saint John. Housed within the Growth and Community Support Services area of the City of Saint John and under the direct supervision of the Growth Manager, the Growth Coordinator will be a champion for growth in Saint John.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a key point of contact with the operations of growth agencies, partners, and facilities to build effective relationships on behalf of the City.

Represent the City at community tables that are working to improve the City in regards to Real Estate Development, Immigrant Support, Business Support, Talent Attraction, Transportation, Logistics, and other growth initiatives;

Initiate and maintain contact with event coordinators to support the attraction of events to the Uptown with a particular focus on events that will stimulate economic impact to the City, while working closely with the Community Services team to attract events to other areas of the City;

Seek out additional partnerships to leverage growth opportunities for the City, including seeking external funding to drive new initiatives that will improve Saint John's fiscal position;

In partnership with the City Market Manager, solicit local vendors that are interested in setting up space in the City Market, Open Streets, Market Slip or on other City property, and maintain positive relationships with these vendors;

Be a key internal contact on matters related to Growth and help build a culture of Growth across municipal service areas;
-
Develop and coordinate social media plans with the Communications Department on matters related to Growth, the City Market, the Night Market, events, and other growth initiatives;
-
Work with colleagues in the Growth and Community Support Services Department to ensure that grants, capital improvements, and in-kind support offered by the City are driving growth outcomes;
Provide operational support and coordinate City-initiated events and street closures that are for the express purpose of supporting growth such as Open Streets, and participate on the City's Special Events Task Force as needed:

Assist in the of the City Market Strategic Plan, and work with the City Market Manager to support the daily operations of the City Market, and Night Market.

Lead and coordinate actions in the Central Neighbourhood Plan Action Strategy;
-
Provide input, lead and coordinate specific actions in the Local Immigration Partnership's immigration strategy in conjunction with the Local Immigration Partnership Project Manager;
-
Coordinate other growth opportunities for the City, including coordinating additional markets such as cruise ship or farmers markets where the opportunity arises;
-
Coordinate with other departments and contractors to support operational needs;
-
Be a valued team member of the Growth and Community Support Services team and assist on other operations or projects as needed.
Maximize the return on service delivery by:
-
Developing guides and procedural manuals for programs and services that include clear objectives, methodologies and accountability frameworks;
-
Effectively communicating Saint John's value proposition to a variety of stakeholders, and work closely with the aligned Envision Saint John, and the City's communications department on developing aligned content to promote and grow Saint John;
-
Researching best practices in growth, and monitor demographics, economic trends and growth programming.

Contributing to strategic decision making by providing information and advice to decision makers including but not limited to external partners, potential partners, and internal managers;
-
Supporting management in the drafting of strategies, briefings, processing applications, and supporting the Growth Manager as needed;
-
Assisting in the development and occasional delivery of reports and presentations to Growth Committee and Saint John Common Council.
Safeguard the financial accountability and integrity of the department by:
-
Taking inventory of and purchasing equipment, materials and supplies, as needed;
-
Verifying individual corporate credit card purchases;
-
Conducting budget analysis where needed and assisting with the preparation of the annual budget.

Coordinating the City’s Accommodation Levy Program
This position may have staff supervisory responsibilities at certain times in which case the incumbent will train, mentor, and support staff and volunteers by:
-
Scheduling resources to optimize efficient and effective delivery of services;
-
Recruiting team members or volunteers for events and programming as needed;
-
Planning, preparing, and delegating daily activities of team members and volunteers;
-
Providing timely and effective feedback and ensuring recognition of volunteer efforts;
Essential Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Business, Arts, Planning, Recreation, Community Development, Public Administration or a related discipline, as well as extensive job specific training. A minimum of over five years of progressive experience in a related field.
First Aid CPR certification required within three months of hire as well as a current and valid Class 5 driver's license.
The applicant is subject to a criminal background check.
Strong facilitation, communication, and relationship management skills are essential. Ability to research, analyze, and understand demographics, leisure trends, and public needs, and act upon or recommend actions to foster appropriate and sustainable community development.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, audio/visual equipment, various hand tools, sports/recreation equipment and apparatus, electronic entertainment equipment, general office equipment, and operates a motor vehicle.
A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
