Your Opportunity
An opportunity exists for a highly motivated, personable, and very organized Senior Team Lead (TL) for the Ecosystems (Terrestrial, Aquatics and Indigenous Services) Teams in our Environmental Services Business Centre (BC). You will report directly to the BC Operations Leader (BCOL) and work closely with the BC Leadership team and TLs within the BC. As a Senior TL, you will be the primary contact point for the BC’s leadership team and will help grow our business through ongoing resource planning, recruitment, retention, and development of staff. Technical work will make up 60% of your time.

Your Key Responsibilities
Technical Work
- Participating actively in team lead meetings, contributing insights and representing the Ecosystems team
- Collaborating with the teams to drive new technical initiatives or service lines
- Providing guidance and support on projects through roles such as subject matter expert or technical discipline lead
- Developing proposals and submissions to support client projects
- Creating technical reports as requested
- Adhering to client and project deadlines by completing work in a timely manner
- Assisting Ecology team with complex work where required
- Liaising and providing communication for sector leads, sector representatives and project managers to resource proposals and project work
Leadership
- Providing guidance and leadership to up to 8 Team Leads within the Ecosystems team on the operational management of multidisciplinary teams
- Establishing and communicating team goals that align with the Business Centre’s strategic objectives
- Monitoring and optimizing team utilization rates by ensuring resources are effectively deployed and balanced based on capacity, skills and staff career goals
- Working with Business Centre Lead(s), Technical Discipline Leads, Technical Area Leads to identify and manage professional development activities and business development opportunities in support of staff career goals
- Participating in the recruitment process for new hires and transfers including the coordination of onboarding activities and IT setup
- Providing coaching and development opportunities to Team Leads as it relates to employee career progression and development (individuals and teams)
- Providing recommendations for career level progression and rate recommendations
- Overseeing the goal-setting and performance year end reviews process within the Ecosystems team to ensure Team Leads are actively engaging with their direct reports.
- Providing and assisting Team Leads on-going performance evaluation and targeted constructive feedback
- Assisting and providing input in performance management when required
- Maintaining positive working relationships with Technical Area Leaders and Business Centre Leaders within the Ecosystems team
- Leading and acting as a champion for recognition and rewards programs
- Collaborating with safety personnel and leadership to support mandatory training requirements of all employees within the Ecosystems team
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Proven experience and ability to lead a diverse group of individuals in a fast-paced dynamic work environment
- Dynamic leader with the ability to work collaboratively and motivate people toward a shared vision
- Creative, solutions-focused thinker with strong inter-personal and communication (written and verbal) skills
- Active and empathetic listener, experienced in navigating difficult personal and professional conversations aimed at a positive and productive outcome
- Committed and supportive delegator who is highly organized, able to multi-task and prioritize.
- Confident and collaborative decision maker
- Open and honest communicator with proven ability to provide positive and constructive feedback to staff
- Previous leadership or management experience is desirable
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field.
Minimum 10 years of relevant environmental experience.
Knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory process is an asset.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
