Position Summary
The Scale House Lead Hand plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the scale house at our Maple Ridge facility. This is a hands-on role that combines customer service, data accuracy, and leadership support. The Lead Hand helps ensure smooth traffic flow, accurate scale transactions, and assists in guiding scale house staff in alignment with GFL’s standards for safety, compliance, and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily operations of the scale house, including assigning tasks and providing guidance to staff.
- Ensure all loads are weighed accurately and tickets/data are entered correctly into the system.
- Act as a resource for drivers, contractors, and customers with inquiries or issues at the scale.
- Monitor and direct traffic flow in and out of the facility to maintain safety and efficiency.
- Assist with training new scale house employees and providing ongoing support.
- Perform ticket audits, reconcile reports, and assist with cash handling as required.
- Escalate operational or safety concerns to the Scale House Supervisor or Site Manager.
- Promote a safe, positive, and customer-focused work environment.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a scale house, dispatch, or operations environment preferred.
- Prior lead hand, team lead, or mentorship experience considered an asset.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with computers and comfortable with data entry.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Safety-conscious and reliable team player.
