International Card Services (ICS) is a core operating group of American Express and has delivered robust growth over the past decade.
The ICS LFO Canada team is a highly respected decision support finance team that works closely with multiple business partners to provide analytical and value-added recommendations that have tangible impact on business decisions, long range strategy and overall growth performance. With numerous stakeholders requiring consultative finance support, the level of exposure and insights to real business challenges and opportunities is high and often demanding.
This Director role provides strategic stewardship to a team of Managers and Senior Analysts on all aspects of financial decision support and analysis for the International Card Services Business in Canada. This includes annual and Long range Plans and monthly R&Os, results analysis, product constructs, pricing, investment optimization, new deals and partnerships, and new product launches, among others. In addition the Director will be leading the planning element for the Internal Capital Adequacy process for the Amex Bank of Canada.
How will you make an impact in this role?
Leading the team to review holistic performance of the ICS business in Canada, identifying trends and bringing forward the required decisions to the Senior Leadership Team:
- Be a strategic business partner and provide analytical and financial decision support to the ICS Canada with a particular focus on margins.
- Complete strategic and financial planning processes (e.g., Monthly Reviews, Variance Analysis, Annual Plan, Investment Optimization, and Long-Range Plan).
- Query, curate & analyze large data sets (LUMI/SQL/Yellowbrick), and use data to substantiate and inform business strategy.
- Transform data sets into compelling visuals that clearly articulate business drivers/KPIs and drive insights (i.e., PowerBI).
- Identify and create analyses that support business decisions to improve product economics and provide insights into the external environment, form recommendations and communicate these in a clear and concise manner to internal partners.
- Own end to end planning process for key Volumes and P&L for the annual ICAAP process.
- Collaborate with the broader Finance team (FP&A, Controllership, Treasury, Tax) as well as other business partners to advance the vision and strategy of the Finance team and the broader business.
- Lead a team of at least two individuals.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of proven experience of leading teams in a complex and multi-stakeholder environment with multiple projects, delegating and developing individuals.
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to translate complex financial analysis into value added recommendations to support decision making.
- Desire and ability to challenge the status quo, think different and be open to learn from failure.
- Influencing and driving action with business partners in multiple locations.
- Ability to network and build strong relationships using data to influence and working collaboratively to find solutions.
- Proven ability to deal with ambiguity and tackle complex problems with limited direction from leader.
- Knowledge of SQL / SAS data mining tools, strong analytical skillset and ability to use mass data and P&L to identify key messages, communicating complex ideas simply.
- Knowledge of planning, IO management and financial modelling .
- Commercial negotiation experience.
- Knowledge of the Consumer/Commercial Card business.
- MBA, qualified Accountant, or equivalent professional qualification, with significant tenure in Finance roles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Payments industry external competitive environment and industry trends including regulation.
