About the role

Cultural Heritage and Environmental Field Workers: Summary of Organizational Responsibilities: The successful candidate will bring their energy, enthusiasm, and interest in environmental and cultural resources to the field review of a variety of resource planning, monitoring, and research projects. Specifically, the successful candidate will provide support to the LNIB staff by (1) conducting field assessment of proposed development activities to determine the presence of Cultural Heritage and environmental concerns; (2) monitor development activities to protect cultural heritage and environmental values; and (3) and assisting in data collection for research projects.

Duties and Tasks

  • Field surveying for Cultural Heritage Resources, archaeological, plants, wildlife, and soils values;
  • Data entry into iPad used for field work;
  • Communications (small reports describing results of field surveys, presentations);
  • Must be able to operate multiple apps on an iPad;
  • Familiarity with online mapping platforms, such as Avenza.
  • Must be able to demonstrate and follow written and verbal instructions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A valid drivers license and reliable transportation (Preferred);
  • Dependable;
  • Understanding/interest in Nlaka’pamux resource use and cultural practices;
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook;
  • Attention to detail related to note taking, and field sampling duties;
  • Physically fit and able to work in adverse field conditions;
  • Daily travel will be required;
  • High paced work environment;
  • Personal Protective Equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hi-vis vest) required (by employee); and
  • Ability to speak or willingness to learn the Nlaka’pamux language.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary training/education in natural resource management or related field (Preferred);
  • Resource Inventory Standards Committee Training (RISC) in Archaelogical and CMT Inventory for Crew Members (Preferred);
  • ntermediate First Aid with Transportation Endorsement (Preferred);

Working Environment:

  • · Outdoor work, subject to all weather conditions and terrain; and
  • Must be able to handle wildlife encounters and respond as per training.

The Nłeʔkepmxc Tribal Council (NNTC) was established in the early 1980’s to protect and promote the title and rights of the Nłeʔkepmxc Nation, and defend and advance interests in jurisdiction and economic rights including access to the fishery and forest sources.
