The Opportunity
We are looking for an Indirect Tax Manager to join our specialty tax team. This is a technically focused role for an experienced public accounting professional with a strong GST/HST advisory background who wants to lead the delivery of complex indirect tax work—supported by a dedicated specialty tax partner who oversees practice strategy and growth.
In this role, you will own the technical side of our indirect tax engagements: leading client work, ensuring quality, mentoring team members, and serving as the go-to resource for GST/HST questions across the firm. You won’t be expected to build the practice on your own. We’ve structured this role so you can focus on what you do best—solving complex indirect tax problems and delivering excellent work for clients.
Whether you’re looking to grow into senior leadership over time or build deep expertise as a trusted technical specialist, this role supports either path.
About You
You are a detail-oriented, technically curious tax professional who takes pride in getting the analysis right and explaining it clearly. You enjoy coaching others, maintaining strong client relationships, and being the person people turn to for answers on indirect tax.
You have:
- 5+ years of progressive experience in public accounting, with a strong focus on Canadian indirect tax (GST/HST)
- A CPA designation (or equivalent)
- Deep working knowledge of GST/HST compliance, advisory, and planning, including registrations, ITCs, place of supply, exemptions, and audit support
- Experience leading or significantly contributing to indirect tax planning and advisory engagements, including complex or non-routine matters
- Proven ability to research and interpret complex tax legislation, develop well-reasoned conclusions, and communicate recommendations clearly to clients and internal stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple client files, deadlines, and competing priorities with minimal oversight
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with Canadian income tax filings (T1, T2, T3) is an asset, though not required for this role
- Experience with CRA audit defence or voluntary disclosures related to indirect tax
About the Gig
As an Indirect Tax Manager, you will:
- Lead and manage GST/HST engagements from planning through completion, ensuring technical accuracy and timely delivery
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on indirect tax matters, maintaining trusted advisor relationships and responding to complex questions
- Identify indirect tax risks and opportunities within existing client relationships and recommend practical solutions tailored to their needs
- Review work prepared by staff and senior accountants, providing clear, constructive feedback and technical guidance
- Coach, mentor, and support the development of team members, contributing to a strong learning culture within the tax group
- Collaborate with the practice lead partner on technical advisory opportunities and process improvements
- Support CRA audits and inquiries related to indirect tax, including drafting responses and liaising with tax authorities
- Contribute to technical knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the indirect tax practice
