The School of Physiotherapy in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health invites applications for a full-time, probationary tenure-track, tenure-track, or tenured appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor commencing July 1, 2026.

Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health is one of the most programmatically diverse in Canada, and one of the largest faculties at the university, comprised of eight schools, one college and two programs, more than 200 faculty members, 80 staff members, and over 3,000 students.

Dalhousie University is home to the only School of Physiotherapy in Atlantic Canada. The School is one of 11 units within the Faculty of Health.

The vision of the School of Physiotherapy is to lead regionally, nationally and internationally in collaborative, inclusive physiotherapy education, research, and service that advance health, policy, and practice. To attain this vision, our mission is to educate future physiotherapists and scholars who excel, inspire through research and discovery that advances knowledge and practice, and improve the health and wellness of the diverse communities we serve through collaboration and innovation. Faculty and staff at the School work together to create a dynamic environment that fosters excellence in research, teaching, scholarship, and leadership.

The School of Physiotherapy offers an entry-level Master of Science in Physiotherapy (MScPT) program, a thesis-based Master of Science in Rehabilitation Research (MScRR) program and many faculty supervise and support students through the PhD in Health Program (Faculty of Health).

Faculty members in the School of Physiotherapy are recognized nationally and internationally for their research contributions in the areas of social determinants of health, mobility, physical activity and exercise in special populations including older adults, and those with musculoskeletal, neurological, or cardiorespiratory health concerns. The School is also home to the Canada Research Chair in Physical Activity, Mobility and Healthy Aging. Research activities are supported by onsite laboratories, Dalhousie University research institutes, extensive collaborations with community and clinical partners locally, provincially, nationally, and globally at Nova Scotia Health, the IWK Health Center that offers care to women, children, youth and families, and the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre. Research within the School is supported with funding from government and non-government agencies as well as several other provincial and local funding agencies.

As of the start date (July 1, 2026), the successful candidate will hold a PhD in Physiotherapy or a related field from a recognized and accredited University and demonstrate clear promise of future academic accomplishment including the ability to obtain research funding and produce deliverables related to the applicant’s research focus.

It is required that candidates are eligible to hold a license to practice in Physiotherapy in Nova Scotia. University level teaching experience and/or postdoctoral experience in areas of Musculoskeletal health and/or paediatrics are also preferred. The incumbent will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. The successful applicant will understand the issues facing health care broadly and rehabilitation specifically and will be committed to excellence in education, research and service both within and outside the Dalhousie community.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include establishing and operating a sustainable research program, teaching and mentoring in the entry-level and thesis-based programs, and contributing to the academic life of the School, Faculty, University, and community at large.
