Duties and Responsibilities: Durham College seeks a strategic and transformational leader for its Faculties of Business and Information Technology (BIT), and Media, Art and Design (MAD). The interim Executive Dean provides academic and administrative leadership to faculty members, administrators and support staff that contributes to ongoing success and growth within a highly competitive and rapidly changing environment. The incumbent is part of the Academic Leadership Team and works collaboratively to achieve the College’s Strategic Vision and Academic Plan. Reporting to the Vice President, Academic and Students, the Executive Dean creates a positive and inclusive work environment, advances exemplary teaching and learning, supports applied research activities, strengthens work-integrated learning opportunities, and leads the development, delivery and ongoing review of market-driven programs that reflect industry trends. The incumbent strategically manages and realizes the Faculties’ recruitment and enrolment goals.
As a visionary leader, the Executive Dean is responsible for building and strengthening collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners. Establishing positive relationships with the community, industry and business representatives, exercising sound financial management and participating in the College’s student recruitment and job placement initiatives are critical aspects of this leadership position. The successful candidate also contributes to and/or takes the lead on college-wide initiatives and committees.
Qualifications:
- Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant academic discipline, and has deep industry experiences in a related field;
- Have a minimum of nine years of related, progressive leadership experience in an academic setting and a demonstrated track record of leading innovation, as well as high-performing teams in a unionized environment;
- Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and development;
- Possess strong administrative and financial management skills, excel in program accreditation processes, set goals and achieve objectives;
- Have experience fostering a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging and a commitment to the Indigenous Education Protocol for Colleges and Institutes;
- Have outstanding communication, negotiation and collaboration skills;
- Have a proven ability to develop, lead and maintain partnerships internally, and with other educational institutions; and
- Demonstrate skills in conflict resolution, strong advocacy abilities to support students, faculty and staff, as well as familiarity with the changing landscapes in both industry and post-secondary education.
