As the Parks Community Strategist, you will act as the primary point of contact for citizens, special interest groups, community associations, business organizations and other city departments and business units with Calgary Parks operations. Primary duties include:

  • Identify, establish and maintain internal and external relationships required for effective Calgary Parks operations and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead projects and initiatives resulting in strategies, policies and guidelines that impact Calgary Parks operations and/or users.
  • Develop strategic responses and recommendations that impact Calgary Parks policies, operations, and the public's overall perception of Calgary Parks services, while considering the following: participant interests, political and cultural environments, resources and financial realities.
  • Represent Calgary Parks and develop productive partnerships and/or relationships with external communities, schools, special interest groups and other government and commercial organizations.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate engagement opportunities with the public.
  • Respond to 311 service requests from the public, for example: requests related to community initiatives or project such as playground developments, and off leash policy.
  • Develop Calgary Parks policies and guideline that impact user groups and Calgary Parks operations.
  • May act as media spokesperson for specific Parks related issues.
  • Develop, recommend and manage operational agreements with external interested parties.
  • Review and approve Parks booking requests for significant special events and/or programs that impact parks spaces in the community.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2 year diploma in a related field plus at least 5 years of related experience; OR
  • A degree in Parks Management, Recreation Management or a related field plus at least 3 years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of 311 Motorola System and Parks Asset Reporting & Information System (PARIS) will be considered assets.
  • Proven experience in community development, including creating diverse teams of internal and external interested parties will be an asset.
  • Success in this position requires excellent investigation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess tact and diplomacy in a customer service environment.
  • Strong change management, project management and time management skills.
  • Effective planning and leadership skills along with strong organizational and communication skills.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $47.01 - 62.84 per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35-hour work week
