Our Planning, Development & Real Estate Department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Building Inspector to join our team.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for performing complex building inspections and providing technical leadership and mentorship to inspection staff, serving as an immediate escalation pathway for complex questions and field-level issues. You will participate in the inspection of all types of building construction including the most complex construction projects, ensure compliance with applicable building codes, acts, bylaws, standards and regulations; and provide leadership in advancing building inspection related practices, policies and regulations. Additionally, you will liaise with applicants, other City staff, professionals and the public; participate with other senior staff in formulating improvements to the building permitting and inspection process through the review and refinement of procedures and policies; support the Chief Building Official in responding to and addressing complaints and enforcement issues, and in preparing reports and bylaw amendments related to the work.
Requirements
The successful candidate will possess a Diploma of Technology in Building, or a related discipline, plus considerable related experience in municipal inspections and/or in the building construction industry. Registration with Building Officials’ Association of British Columbia (BOABC) as a Level III qualified Building Official and a Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License is required. Qualification as a Level I or II Plumbing Official, computer literacy with electronic plan review and administration software, and in MS Excel and MS Word will be considered an asset.
Compensation
$50.13 to $59.23 per hour
(Pay Grade 28 – January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
