POSITION TITLE: Intermediate Network Administrator
LOCATION: Collingwood or Barrie, ON
MacLean Engineering is looking for a motivated and talented Network Administrator to add to the existing skills of our IT team. About the Position:
The Network Administrator plays a key role in keeping MacLean's technology infrastructure running securely and reliably across our manufacturing facilities. With a security-first mindset, you will administer, monitor, and protect our network, systems, and data, ensuring the connectivity and resilience our design, manufacturing, and business teams depend on every day. This is an intermediate-level role with a strong cybersecurity focus, suited to someone who enjoys both the day-to-day administration of network infrastructure and the challenge of defending it against evolving threats.
The following proficiencies are required:
- Administer, monitor, and maintain LAN/WAN, wireless, VPN, and core network services (DNS, DHCP, network time, etc.) across multiple sites to ensure performance, availability, and uptime.
- Configure, manage, and harden firewalls, switches, routers, and VLANs, and maintain effective network segmentation between corporate, guest, and operational technology (OT) environments.
- Implement, monitor, and continuously improve cybersecurity controls, including endpoint protection/EDR, patch and vulnerability management, multi-factor authentication, access control, and email and web security.
- Monitor security alerts and logs (SIEM), investigate suspicious activity, and lead or support incident response, containment, and remediation.
- Conduct and coordinate vulnerability scanning and remediation, and support penetration testing, security assessments, and audits.
- Administer identity and access management through Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) and Active Directory, enforcing security policies and least-privilege access.
- Maintain and test backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes to protect against data loss and downtime.
- Support and maintain server and virtualization infrastructure (e.g., Windows Server, Hyper-V/VMware) and related services.
- Document network architecture, configurations, security procedures, and asset inventory, and keep documentation current.
- Provide escalation support to the IT helpdesk and mentor junior team members on networking and security best practices.
- Partner with stakeholders and vendors to plan, test, and roll out infrastructure and security improvements.
- Stay current with cybersecurity threats, network technologies, and industry best practices in manufacturing and OT security.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
About You: The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Computer Networking, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
- Three or more (3+) years' experience in a Network Administrator, Network Engineer, or similar role administering networks in a business environment.
- Solid hands-on experience with firewalls, switching, routing, VLANs, VPNs, and enterprise wireless.
- Strong understanding of network and cybersecurity principles, including segmentation, defense-in-depth, and secure configuration.
- Experience administering Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Windows Server, and Active Directory.
- Familiarity with security tooling such as endpoint protection/EDR, SIEM, vulnerability scanning, patch management, and multi-factor authentication.
- Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues across the network and security stack.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, with willingness to participate in occasional on-call or after-hours support and maintenance windows.
- High level of professionalism, honesty, and integrity, with a strong sense of confidentiality given access to sensitive systems and data.
- Industry certifications are an asset (e.g., CompTIA Network+ or Security, Microsoft certifications, or CISSP/CISM in progress).
- Scripting and automation skills (e.g., PowerShell) are an asset.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel between our facilities as needed.
- Bilingualism is an asset (French and/or Spanish are desirable).
- Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or operational technology (OT) environment is beneficial but not required.
