What to expect:

As a Procedure Verification Engineer, you are responsible for the review of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Welding Procedure Data Sheets (WPDS) and Welding Procedure Qualification Records (WPQR) submitted by clients. In this position they will review and approve these documents in accordance with established standards and CWB Group work instructions. A Procedure Verification Engineer could also be assigned Electrodes Certification responsibilities, which includes planning/testing and assessing conformity of welding consumables to CSA W48, AWS A5 specifications or ISO welding consumable standards. It also includes the review and auditing of welding consumables manufacturers quality system. If assigned to Electrodes Certification they will be required to travel within Canada, the United States, Mexico, South America or overseas as 90% of CWB certified welding consumables are manufactured outside Canada. This includes:

Procedure Verification:

  • Approves various company welding procedure specifications and welding procedure data sheets.
  • Reviews include assessments to applicable CSA Standards, theory and practicality. Reviews can also be done in accordance to AWS codes and ISO welding standards.
  • Approves welding procedure specifications and welding procedure data sheets for technical content based on accepted practice, industrially published literature, CWB Group Work Instructions and relevant welding standards. In each case the contents are evaluated for their engineering and technical content as it relates to welding (with specific attention in regard to structural welding requirements).
  • Approves welding procedure qualification records for accuracy in accordance with CWB Group Work Instructions and relevant welding standards.
  • Reviews procedures qualification records after evaluation in order to verify specified parameters on a welding procedure data sheet. This involves assessing weld profile and mechanical test results. This often results in suggestions to the end user for alteration to welding parameters or final approval based on testing.

Electrode Certification:

  • Witnesses electrode certification tests at client facilities and be present during all welding of test assemblies.
  • Reviews and comprehends testing requirements as described in welding consumable standards and specifications, prior to the testing session.
  • Communicates the test requirements to the client and ensure that all test assemblies are as required.
  • Records all testing details in eCorp. Details shall be recorded prior, during and upon completion of testing as appropriate.
  • Maintains electrode client information in CWB database.
  • Measures and documents testing parameters, using measuring equipment such as an ammeter and tachometer.
  • Visually assesses the test assembly in accordance with the testing standard, both during welding and upon completion.
  • Reviews all reports created with the client, ensuring they are thorough and accurate.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a remote, work from home position that could require travel to client sites or CWB head office

In this position, you will report to the Supervisor, Procedures and Electrodes and will be working remotely from your home office in Canada. CWB has adopted a remote-first working model, where employees will work from their home office, servicing the client within their specified areas either remotely or in person. What you bring to the table:

  • University Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Materials or Welding.
  • 2-5 years in the welding/fabrication industry.
  • Technical background and technical knowledge of the welding and joining industry.
  • Must have knowledge of welding and testing standards.
  • Must be organized and possess superior time management skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating environment.
  • A valid driver’s license in the province of employment and your own vehicle are mandatory and travel is required.
  • Being able to travel outside Canada.

The following qualifications are considered assets:

  • 2-5 years as a Welding Engineer or Technologist.
  • Current standing of Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in minimum 1 province
  • Certified W178.2 Level 1 or 2 Inspector or be eligible and obtain Level 1 within the probationary period.
  • Bilingual in French and English
  • Experience in conducting quality system audits
  • Experience in NDT and mechanical testing
