Position Summary

LaSalle College Vancouver is seeking a Live Sound Reinforcement Instructor with strong technical and professional experience in live event audio, PA system design and deployment, and digital console operation. The ideal candidate brings a solid understanding of practical sound reinforcement workflows in small- to medium-sized venues and can mentor students through both technical theory and real-world live production practices.

The successful candidate thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced academic environment, enjoys coaching learners through hands-on problem solving, and communicates complex signal-flow and acoustical concepts in an accessible, practical way. Reporting to the Program Director of Media Arts, the instructor will teach PRA251 – Live Sound Reinforcement.

Students develop skills in:

  • Sound reinforcement system concepts and equipment integration
  • PA system design for live music, speech, lecture, and corporate AV contexts
  • Digital console signal flow, routing, and scene management (including X32 Edit workflows)
  • System setup, operation, troubleshooting, and teardown
  • Microphones, digital snakes, wireless systems, racks, and stage deployment
  • Speaker placement, room acoustics, standing waves, and frequency management
  • EQ strategy for FOH and monitor applications, including feedback control
  • Monitor mixing, artist communication during soundcheck, and stage-volume management
  • Stagecraft documentation, including stage plots and technical riders
  • Applied troubleshooting in challenging acoustic environments

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Curriculum
  • Teach a minimum of one and a maximum of five sections*per term, as assigned by the Program Director and/or Chief Academic Officer (sections are subject to change).
  • Teach assigned PRA251 courses following approved outlines, course outcomes, and curriculum standards.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, demonstrations, labs, and practical assessments on schedule.
  • Create a student-centered, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports diverse learning styles.
  • Guide students through hands-on setup, routing, tuning, operation, troubleshooting, and teardown of complete live sound systems.
  • Demonstrate best practices for live audio workflow, safety, professionalism, and technical communication.
  • Provide structured, constructive feedback on assignments, practical quizzes, projects, and exams.
  • Model industry-standard working methods, including organized signal flow, documentation, and efficient troubleshooting.
  • Uphold academic and attendance policies, including timely grading and accurate record keeping.
  • Communicate effectively with students using approved communication platforms and provide timely academic support.
  • Demonstrate ongoing commitment to teaching excellence, reflective practice, and continuous professional development.

Student Mentorship

  • Support students in building practical confidence with digital consoles and live system operation.
  • Coach learners through technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis under live-production constraints.
  • Encourage professional teamwork, stage etiquette, and clear communication with performers and production teams.
  • Mentor students toward industry readiness through realistic production scenarios and performance-based evaluation.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma, degree, or equivalent professional training in Audio Engineering, Live Sound, Music Technology, or a related field; or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in live sound reinforcement, event audio production, or related technical audio roles.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Live sound signal flow and system integration
  • Digital console routing and operation
  • PA tuning fundamentals and room acoustics
  • Feedback management and practical EQ
  • Setup and operation of microphones, wireless systems, and stage infrastructure
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to learners at beginner-to-intermediate levels.
  • Ability to supervise hands-on practical activities safely and effectively in classroom/lab/live simulation environments.

**Note:**International academic credentials will only be accepted if accompanied by a WES assessment or an equivalent evaluation. Any costs associated with obtaining this assessment are the candidate’s responsibility, and the evaluation must be completed prior to the official hiring date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Behringer X32 / X32 Edit or comparable digital console ecosystems.
  • Experience in live mixing for bands, speech, lecture, and/or corporate AV events.
  • Experience with monitor mixing (wedges and IEM workflows).
  • Familiarity with stage plotting, technical riders, and production logistics.
  • Prior teaching, mentoring, or technical training experience in post-secondary or professional settings.
