About the role

Position Summary Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, the Senior Communications Officer coordinates the Port’s corporate communications, marketing efforts, media relations, and social media activities. The Senior Communications Officer defines and expresses the organization’s voice across multiple platforms, including website, advertising, social channels, and media relations, while providing communications support to PRPA’s trade development, public affairs, and sustainability teams. The position requires experience and passion for managing, designing and implementing content strategy, as well as expertise in creating relevant content and maximizing community, commercial, and staff participation.

Please note that this is a 20-month contract position. Position Accountabilities

  • Coordinates internal and external communication support to ensure the Port’s communications, marketing, social media, and media objectives are met.
  • Leads and contributes to various communications, marketing and media projects, including collateral design, development, and distribution.
  • Researches and leads the development of content to support presentations, advertisements, website, newsletters, digital content, brochures, and other port communication marketing assets.
  • Assists with the annual advertising calendar and advertising material development, placement, and advertising tracking/reporting.
  • Creates, curates and manages published content for the corporate website.
  • Manages, creates, and grows business presence across PRPA’s social media channels. Consults, advises and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support marketing and public affairs initiatives with communications support that leverages corporate website/social media and supports PRPA’s corporate objectives.
  • Leads work with external suppliers to ensure communication products are produced and delivered according to set budgets and timelines.
  • Supports media relations proactively and responsively as required.
  • Leverages measurement tools to provide KPI reports, contributions to campaign post-mortems, and analytics insights, while identifying ways to improve metrics through testing and new initiatives.
  • Provides photography, videography, and social media coverage for PRPA events.
  • Assists with maintenance and management of the Digital Asset Management System and media monitoring service.
  • Coordinates the development and preparation of presentations and marketing materials.
  • Responds to media, general telephone, and website inquiries.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with members of the media community.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works predominantly in an office environment.
  • Regular working hours are Mondays to Fridays, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with 1 hour lunch break (unpaid).

JOB SPECIFICATIONS Formal Education

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Commerce or Commercial Art and Design. Equivalent combination of training and experience will also be considered.
  • An undergraduate degree is an asset.

Related Experience

  • Minimum of two years’ work experience in communications, public relations and/or marketing with demonstrated experience in working with print, electronic and web-based media, including liaising with advertising representatives and journalists.
  • Knowledge of social media account and platform management and digital marketing tools, in particular MeltWater, WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Vimeo, Google Analytics, Google Ads, and content management systems and processes.
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment, preferably with First Nations communities, is considered an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including editing, and proofreading.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to juggle multiple and sometimes competing priorities simultaneously. Highly organized and detail orientated.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Suite tools, including Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint.
  • Adept at collection and use of statistical data.
  • Creative and intuitive thinker, enthusiastic, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as be a valuable team player.
  • Knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop will be considered an asset.
  • Videography and post-production editing skills are considered an asset.
  • Able to obtain security clearance under Transport Canada’s Security Clearance Program.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.

The hourly range for this role is $39.06 - $48.82
