About the role

The Department of Applied Disaster and Emergency Studies (ADES) is seeking Contract Academic Staff to lead the in-person lab section for the course at Brandon University for the 2025 – 2026 academic year.

40:362 Disaster Response Management, Section Z10, 1.5 credit hours
Start date: Winter Term (Jan to Apr 2026). Lab Slot 14: Thursdays 1:40 pm to 4:30 pm

Course description: 40:362. DISASTER RESPONSE MANAGEMENT
This course focuses on the theory and practice of how organizations manage their responses to emergencies and disasters. The use of incident management systems, emergency operation centres and other response techniques are considered from conceptual and practical perspectives. Disaster warning systems, evacuation planning, emergency social services, and related topics are examined. The course includes lab work in which students apply a selection of tools and techniques to become familiar with the roles of community members, government and non-government organizations and the private sector through activities in the Emergency Operations Lab (EOL). 3 laboratory hours per week, one term.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in Disaster and Emergency Management or related disciplines is required. Applicants must have relevant expertise in the emergency management profession. Successful teaching or training experience is preferred.

Salary: $3,928.50 per 1.5 credit course

Start date: Winter Term begins January 6, 2026
