Overview As the PLC/Controls Specialist at Trench Canada Instrument Transformers, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a diverse team that strives towards improvement and reliability of production equipment. A major focus is on developing, implementing, and auditing manufacturing automation practices as well as maintaining and creating Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs for existing and new equipment installations.

Your Tasks:

  • Support the maintenance team with diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving equipment issues.
  • Support, coach, and develop electricians with controls related troubleshooting efforts.
  • Propose and develop projects that will increase reliability of the automation through controls and managing through capital expenditure (CAPEX) portfolio – Project Management.
  • Ensure Controls related work orders are scheduled and completed in a timely manner by working with the Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Technicians.
  • Highlight concerns with equipment and projects to responsible departments within the facility.
  • Study new machinery/processes and recommend or select efficient combinations.
  • Build new PLC (software + hardware) for upgradation of existing and new machinery within the production facility.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot existing PLC, liaising with OEM as required.

Requirements:

  • University Degree or College Diploma or higher in Electrical/Software/Process Engineering or a related field.
  • 3 or more years’ experience in a Controls and Automation role including PLC software and hardware installation and maintenance.
  • Controls or programming experience coupled with demonstrated understanding of mechanical and electrical fundamentals.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial control systems, process automation, instrumentation, and maintenance processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, AS-i).
  • Proficiency in Allen Bradley PLC’s, Panasonic, and Siemens S7.
  • Proficiency in industrial software (SCADA) and Allen Bradley FactoryTalk View HMI Software.
  • Solid understanding of motor control and VFD operations.
  • Understanding of Industrial Ethernet networks on a large scale.
  • Experience with project scheduling.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations.

We offer: In accordance with the Pay Transparency Act, we are committed to providing clear and accessible information about compensation for this role. The expected compensation range for this position is CAD $60000 - $100000 / Annually. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on several job-related factors, including relevant education, depth and breadth of experience, professional certifications or license, specialized skills aligned with the role, and internal equity considerations.
