ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Manager of Live-in Treatment, the Relief Live-in Treatment Child and Youth Worker is responsible for working closely with children, youth, their families/caregivers and treatment team to foster a responsive, empathetic and nurturing therapeutic environment that addresses the social and emotional needs in a home milieu setting. As a key member of this team, the Live-in Treatment Child and Youth Care Worker-Relief staff contributes to, and participates in the implementation, and ongoing assessment of clinical treatment plans.

The Child and Youth Worker-Relief, provides support to the program by working occasional shifts that support schedule gaps. There is no set schedule that is worked.

This is an ideal opportunity for Child and Youth Care Workers and Social Service Workers who are looking for some flexibility in their schedule and enjoy working with children and youth in an intensive and dynamic milieu setting.

Employment Status: Relief

Salary Range: $26.93/hr

Location: 402 Bloomington Road, Aurora, ON and/or 968 Queensville Side Road, East Gwillimbury, this position will require travel within York Region.

Hours of Work: On-call as needed, may including evenings, weekends and overnight shifts.

A LOOK AT YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops positive rapport with clients in the program to create psychological safety and trust through relationship-building activities and observation of the client’s physical and emotional well-being.
  • Ensures client safety by following Non Violent Crisis Intervention guidelines for crisis prevention and de-escalation, following agency policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the assessment of new clients, review of admission documents, preliminary briefings and support in assisting in the preparations from admission within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to provide daily activities, routines, and behavioural support that is both developmentally and clinically appropriate for children in the program based on client needs.
  • Maintains the cleanliness, organization, and upkeep of the living space, specifically client rooms, bathrooms, grounds and common spaces.
  • Intervenes physically in crisis situations to reduce harm to the client, self or others in accordance with the principles and methods of the agency approved crisis intervention model.
  • Provides client transportation to healthcare appointments and home visits as required.
  • Prepares written documentation as required by internal policies and procedures and external partner requirements such as completing checklists for specific areas including but not limited to; meal planning and preparation, food ordering, laundry and cleaning.
  • Actively reports serious occurrences, including daily reporting and medication administration.
  • Performs work in a safe manner and adheres to the established health and safety measures of the organization.
  • Actively supports Equity, Diversity and Inclusion drivers, including fostering a welcoming and safe space, where people can expect to be treated fairly, equitably and in a culturally responsive way.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Completion of a post-secondary education in Child and Youth Care, Social Work or related field.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a milieu setting.

  • Achieves and maintains certification in agency approved Crisis Intervention methodology.

  • Competent in trauma-informed practice, child development, and child and youth care relational practice.

  • Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations.

  • Available to work flexible hours within a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) days a week operation.

  • Driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract, including proof of automobile insurance.

  • Must possess a satisfactory Broad Record Check.

NICE TO HAVES:

  • First Nation, Inuit or Métis (FNIM) Elder, Knowledge Keeper, Healer, Medicine Person, Cultural Person with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Applicants with fluency in another language are encouraged to apply.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification.

ON-BOARDING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Police Broad Record Check (within the last 180 days).
  • Pre-employment Immunization clearance form
