This posting is to fill a permanent, full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly.

The Executive Council Office is the centre of excellence for the Government of Yukon. We are leaders in the modernization of government standards and processes.

We provide central strategic advice to advance government priorities through policy development, communications, intergovernmental relations, Indigenous relations, major project management, youth initiatives, Indigenous and scientific knowledge and by supporting the Water Board and the Commissioner’s Office. The department also provides direct support to the Premier and Cabinet.

The opportunity…

Cabinet Analysts are part of a team that supports decision-making at the highest levels of the Yukon government. In this role you will:

  • Support departments bringing forward policy and legislation to Cabinet
  • Provide concise, consistent and thorough policy analysis and advice to Cabinet on a wide range of complex and sensitive issues
  • Lead policy projects within the department and across all government departments
  • Support capacity building in the policy community, including developing and delivering training sessions

  • Completion of post-secondary education, ideally in public administration, public policy, law or a related field
  • Experience providing strategic direction, advice, and recommendations to political leadership or senior management on complex, sensitive, and diverse issues
  • Experience navigating government decision-making processes, with strong understanding of policy formulation and legislative development
  • Experience conducting research and analysis, and leading the development of policies and/or legislative initiatives
  • Experience maintaining positive working relationships, especially when providing constructive feedback and challenging advice

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability

To best support the achievement of key strategic and business objectives, candidates should have and may be assessed on:

  • Ability to quickly identify and consider the current and long-term implications of policy options and assess the impact of decisions on other corporate priorities

  • Ability to understand and support evidence-informed policy analysis and development

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to share information effectively

  • Ability to collaboratively meet tight deadlines and high workloads and adapt to changing circumstances while still performing to a high standard

  • Willingness to facilitate and deliver courses
