Permanent Full Time - Head Custodian

Livingstone Range School Division is accepting applications for a Permanent Full Time Head Custodian at WA Day Elementary School located in Fort Macleod, Alberta. Hours will be from 7 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday – 8 hours/day.
The applicant must be able to communicate and interact positively with the public, co-workers, staff, and administration to ensure all needs are addressed at the site. ?
Custodial work may include physical demands, e.g., lifting chairs, moving furniture or boxes of materials, cleaning equipment, and climbing stairs/ladders. The daily work routine involves the use of various chemicals and janitorial equipment.
This dynamic position is a key team member responsible for facility management, cleanliness, safety and security of the school. Includes training and orientation of new custodial staff as well as planning and implementing cleaning projects. This position will report to the Health & Safety Coordinator and the School Administrator(s).
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for facility management that includes verifying and documenting the heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems are functioning, the school and grounds are clean, secure and safe.
- Responsible for overall appearance of school
- Responsible for custodial team including training and orientation, delegating appropriate tasks and shifts, ensuring professional conduct and appearance is maintained, maintaining confidentiality, and submitting reports as required or requested.
- Responsible for planning, implementing, supervising and managing cleaning projects
- Responsible for operating and maintaining custodial equipment and cleaning supplies
Duties include**:**
- Daytime custodial needs (cleaning, restocking, etc.)
- Ensure the custodial team is trained in the specific school requirements to be successful at their duties
- Stripping, waxing, shampooing and maintaining floors.
- Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDSs).
- Respond to alarms (24 hours, 7 days per week) if needed.
- Change light bulbs and minor repairs as required.
- Supervise and manage major cleanups.
- Submitting work orders as required.
Education/Certification:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Possess a WHMIS certificate and follow Division Health & Safety Policies.
- First Aid certificate is preferred.
Additional Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills**:**
- Knowledge of acceptable caretaking techniques and equipment
- Demonstrate ability in applying effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated initiative and good judgement
- Must possess team leadership skills and the ability to work independently and with others.
- Ability to build positive relations with staff that values a team environment
- Capable of working alone and with minimum supervision
- Organize work and adjust daily routine, as conditions require
- Capable of performing routine and repetitive tasks daily
- Display a good working knowledge of all chemicals/procedures used by caretaking staff
Fitness and Abilities**:**
- Able to stand or walk for extended periods
- Able to lift and carry up to 22 kg independently
- Able to work in a highly active physical environment
- Able to work with a variety of chemicals
Conditions of Employment
- A satisfactory police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment.
