The Business Systems team plays a key role in helping Explore Edmonton operate efficiently, make informed decisions, and stay aligned to organizational priorities. The team is responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining management systems and processes, such as business planning and enterprise performance management, that support consistency across the organization, as well as industry research. Working closely with internal teams, Business Systems helps turn information into insight, creates streamlined processes, and ensures leaders have the tools they need to measure progress and make sound decisions. Their work supports continuous improvement, operational excellence, and the achievement of Explore Edmonton’s strategic objectives.
About the Position
Reporting to the Director, Business Systems, the Business Data Analyst plays an important role in supporting data-informed decision-making across Explore Edmonton. The successful candidate will lead reporting and analysis of internal performance measures, industry indicators, and survey insights while helping evolve the organization’s overall data strategy.
You will work closely with teams across the organization to gather, interpret, and present meaningful data that supports operational effectiveness, strategic objectives, and continuous improvement. This will be conveyed through dashboards, scorecards and other reporting tools, which the Business Data Analyst will design, build and maintain. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys transforming complex information into clear, practical insights that help leaders and teams understand performance, identify trends, and make timely decisions.
As the successful candidate, You Will:
- Lead reporting and analysis of organizational and team performance measures sourced from various internal systems
- Prepare and report on industry indicators using external data sources such as APIs, SFTP, and flat files
- Identify trends, variances, and opportunities to support timely and informed decision-making for internal measures as well as industry indicators
- Design, build, and maintain dashboards, scorecards, and visual reports using Power BI and other reporting tools
- Improve reporting efficiency through automation, standardization, and self-service reporting capabilities
- Prepare ad hoc reports for leadership teams, departments, and external stakeholders
- Support teams in the development, refinement, and tracking of meaningful KPIs and success metrics aligned to strategic objectives
- Coordinate and administer surveys in collaboration with internal teams
- Support survey design, methodology, and data collection best practices
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative survey results to identify themes, opportunities, and areas for improvement
- Prepare clear and professional reports summarizing findings and recommendations
- Present insights to teams and leaders in a practical, easy-to-understand manner
- Track trends over time and benchmark results where appropriate
- Participate in the development and implementation of Explore Edmonton’s organizational data strategy
- Support strong data governance practices, quality standards, and reporting consistency across the organization
What You Will Bring
- Post-secondary degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce, Arts, or a related discipline, and/or certification in Data Science or Analytics
- Minimum two to three years of experience conducting data analysis and reporting, preferably using Microsoft Power BI
- Demonstrated experience developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Excel and SharePoint
- Experience with databases, coding, or data integration tools is considered an asset
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex information
- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to a variety of audiences
- Strong business acumen and the ability to translate data into practical recommendations
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Passion for using data to improve performance, decision-making, and organizational success
