Position Overview

About the Role

Maplewood Farm is currently looking to hire an Auxiliary employee to perform routine maintenance, custodial and public contact work of some variety. The incumbent feeds, handles and cares for domestic farm animals and birds, and maintains enclosures, farm buildings, facilities, and grounds. In addition, the incumbent provides information to the public about the farm and may be required to assist with cashiering and other related tasks.

The successful applicant must possess:

  • Considerable knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for the care and feeding of the farm’s animals;
  • Sound knowledge of the rules governing public conduct on the farm;
  • Working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in maintaining grounds and buildings;
  • Ability to handle animals safely, and to carry out a variety of tasks and procedures related to their care;
  • Ability to perform a variety of unskilled grounds, maintenance and repair tasks;
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public;
  • Ability to understand and carry out work according to oral instructions and to work with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to provide training and direction to others;
  • Ability to facilitate public engagement events, and lead children’s programs, and birthday parties;
  • Ability to complete non-complex forms and reports;
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment used in the work.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting a healthy and safe workplace

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 10, plus some experience in working with animals, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in leading children’s programs would be an asset. Some cashiering and basic keyboarding experience would also be beneficial.

Details

The pay for this unionized position is $33.82 per hour (2024 rates) plus 12% in lieu of all benefits. Hours of work for this position may be any day of the week and may vary between the hours of 6:30am-8pm.
