We are hiring a Programmer/Analyst to support the development of custom clinical applications for research data infrastructure and management and for the deployment of clinical artificial intelligence algorithms. The selected candidate will join our team of data analysts and data scientists to work on three strategic initiatives currently ongoing in the Labatt Family Heart Centre.

Here's What You'll Need

  • 3+ years software engineering experience with advanced degree in quantitative field preferred, with strong hands-on experience in software engineering and backend/frontend system development.
  • Front-end development experience using JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern frameworks including ReactJS, with hands-on use of Tailwind CSS, Material UI, and Bootstrap for production interfaces.
  • Application of advanced software development practices, including:
  • Object-oriented and modular programming
  • API design and development (REST APIs)
  • Scalable backend architectures using Node.js (Express.js) and Python frameworks (Django, FastAPI, Flask)
  • Strong proficiency in Python, React, and SQL, with experience building, deploying, and maintaining production-ready systems, supported by:
  • Relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • NoSQL databases (MongoDB)
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and backend workflows, including API-driven data ingestion and transformation, with practical exposure to ETL-style processing
  • Experience deploying and maintaining online applications on cloud.
  • Cloud deployment experience using Azure, Cloudera, gCloud, including backend services and scalable application hosting.
  • A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Hands-on experience with containerized applications using Docker, integrated into automated CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions and GitLab CI.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development and applied AI workflows, including:
  • Backend integration patterns that support AI/ML-enabled features
  • Foundational familiarity with modern AI/LLM-based systems (application-level, not model training)
  • Experience with monitoring and observability in production environments using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
  • Interest in healthcare applications and clinical decision support
  • Experience with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7)
  • Experience with regulated environment

Employment Type: Full-time temporary 1 year contract with modified benefits (i.e., health & dental), 1.0 FTE
