Almadina School Society, operating as Almadina Language Charter Academy (ALCA)seeks a
Superintendent of Schools to replace our retiring Superintendent. This position would
commence on June 15, 2026. CANDIDATES MUST BE HAVE SLQS. OFFSHORE CANDIDATES
WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Since 1996, ALCA’s mandate has been to serve the needs of students who speak English as a
second language. The school delivers the Alberta Program of Studies with a focus on English
language acquisition to more than 1,400 students in ECS to Grade 11 located at three
campuses. Teachers in our system have Alberta certification and are associate members of the
Alberta Teachers’ Association. The student population is diverse and the school serves the
dynamic educational needs of an urban school authority. Almadina is an active member of The
Association of Alberta Public Charter Schools (TAAPCS). Seven parents elected by the members
of the ALCA serve as Board Directors.
The Superintendent will be an advocate for our school, our charter and our continued success
in meeting the needs of our students.
The role of the successful candidate is to:
Carry out the charter school’s goals
Administer policies and provide leadership in instructional practice and strategic planning,
Provide support and guidance in curriculum instruction and assessment, and
support leadership development and facilitate school-based administration.
The ideal candidate will not only have experience as a school Superintendent, but will also:
Be a strong educational leader with both teaching and school-based administration experience,
Be knowledgeable in research-based instructional practice for English Language Learners,
Have significant leadership abilities,
Have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills,
Be a respected educator who can inspire a charter school to achieve its goals,
Have the ability to make difficult decisions,
Possess excellent interpersonal and administrative skills,
Be a team player who ensures accountability for the charter school,
Work collaboratively with colleagues and all stakeholder groups,
Possess excellent organizational skills, and
Have demonstrated experience in leading initiatives that support student learning and charter
school growth.
CANNOT CHANGE BY MINISTERIAL ORDER
Provincial legislation requires superintendents to have:

A Bachelor of Education degree (or equivalent) and
-
A Master’s degree from an Alberta university (or equivalent),
-
A certificate of qualification as a teacher,
-
At least 3 years’ experience in an Alberta school system or equivalent, and
-
A clear Criminal Record Information Disclosure and Child Welfare Record Check.
For this position, the ideal candidate will also have:
- teaching experience within the ECS to Grade 12 classroom setting
- school administrative experience
- experience at the Board Office level
Previous work with the Alberta charter school movement would be an asset.

POSITION OBJECTIVES
The Superintendent shall:
1.Serve as a resource person to the Charter School Board on matters related to ALCA
governance.
2.Provide results-oriented leadership in respect to the Charter School Board’s vision, mission,
guiding principles and annual objectives.
3.Develop and maintain an open, effective, and positive communication system within ALCA,
with the Charter School Board, and between ALCA and external agencies.
4.Set high academic targets and appropriate strategies to assist students to achieve their full
potential.
5.Ensure that staff and administration have input to plans to raise the performance standards
of students as measured by PATs, Accountability Pillars and other assessment tools as set out in
the current Charter.
6.Monitor the performance of campus-based administrative staff.
7.Promote the professional development and growth of staff, in accordance with school
priorities and direction from campus-based administration.
8.Provide direction to the Secretary Treasurer in updating the annual budget and capital plan.
9.Ensure that ALCA is managed in a fiscally prudent and efficient manner, inviting stakeholders
to share feedback in the budgeting process as required and necessary.
10.Ensure that Almadina submits the reporting and assessment instruments of Alberta
Education in a timely manner.
11.Work with the Board and all stakeholders to ensure that the current Charter is fully realized.
12.Oversee the review, approval and implementation of the Almadina School Society’s By-laws
and the Almadina Language Charter Academy Policies.
13.Coordinate all summer facility projects in 2026.
14.Prepare written progress reports to update the Directors for each meeting of the Board.
Facilitate the Board’s annual goal setting and the formal written Superintendent review process
early in each school year.
15.Participate as spokesperson for ALCA in College of Alberta School Superintendents (CASS)as
well as TAAPCS.
16.Work in collaboration with the Board of Directors to get a high school and new school
facility.
Almadina School Society – a public charter school, seeks a part-time (minimum 0.6 FTE)
Secretary Treasurer for our school authority for a 1 year contract with a 3 month probationary
period. Our schools deliver the Alberta Program of Studies with a focus on English language
acquisition to over 1,200 students in grades 1 to 11 and 60 children in a full day ECS program.
Teachers in our system have Alberta certification and are associate members of the Alberta
Teachers’ Association. The Secretary Treasurer serves as a key member of the administrative
team, is responsible for fiscal management and reports directly to the Superintendent of
Schools
Secretary Treasurer (Must have one of: CPA, CMA, CGA, CA)
The successful candidate will administer policies and provide leadership in financial practice
and strategic planning. Provide day to day financial oversight with hands-on posting and
reconciliation. Will be responsible for all financial and statutory reporting, act as liaison with
banks and auditors and will ensure that comprehensive internal controls are operating and
regularly assessed.
Job Duties/ Responsibilities
- have at least 4 years of progressively more responsible financial administration preference
given to experience in a school board setting

have exceptional experience with hands-on accounting and Canadian payroll requirements

possess excellent interpersonal and administrative skills; and
-
be a team player who ensures accountability in their area of responsibility.
