JOB SUMMARY:

Plans and executes Primary and Secondary Tasks and supports the project team to achieve the successful completion of project objectives.

May be assigned as the Lead Engineer for multiple, simultaneous projects.
Recognized as a functional expert and thought leader, providing consultation to others in the application of engineering practices.

PRIMARY TASKS:

  • Works effectively in both an individual and team environment. Typically works on multiple, simultaneous assignments.

  • Provides technical and project execution consulting to Project Leads. Typically consults on multiple, simultaneous projects.

  • Serves as a key technical resource for Proposals and Sales support activities such as demonstrations, preparation of prototypes, and generation of cost estimates and proposals.

  • Proactively identifies technical opportunities and economic justification for control system improvements and communicates those to the customer, Project Manager and/or Sales. Able to conceive solutions which integrate Yokogawa systems, other Yokogawa products, and other vendors’ products.

  • Proficiently designs, implements, and tests control functions on multiple types of Yokogawa systems in one or more area of advanced specialization (SEBOL, APC, Batch, MES, OPC, Field Network I/O, Network Security and Cybersecurity assurance).

  • Works independently or directs a team which conducts field surveys, compiles data, designs automation functions, and prepares reports for various activities such as customer proposals, FEED studies, project design documents, etc.

  • Leads large or complex projects, including those involving advanced automation technologies. Is responsible for all technical aspects of successful project delivery, including appropriateness of application designs, manpower allocation and usage against budget, supervision of the project team, and meeting delivery schedule.

  • Assigning project tasks and areas of responsibility to project team members. Monitoring quality and rate of technical progress. Providing mentoring or requesting of additional manpower if required.

  • Proficiently designing, implementing, and testing a wide range of I/O, basic control functions, interlocks, sequences, operator interface, and other control components.

  • Being responsible for accuracy and completeness of all project raw data, drawings, databases, and documentation.

  • Being responsible for compliance with project Quality and completion of all Quality documents.

  • Preparing or overseeing the preparation of simulations, test scenarios, test documentation, and leading customer Factory Acceptance Tests.

  • Scheduling, leading or sub-leading, and actively participating in project meetings, site visits and/or startups. Initiating customer communications and meetings as required by the project execution plan or special circumstances.

  • Provide technical and project execution inputs to Project Leads. Leverages personal project experiences by mentoring application engineers.

  • Ability to troubleshoot control and integration problems, and conduct operator training

  • Provide technical solution on integration of control systems with higher level application layers like Historian, Alarm management, asset management systems, network security, subsystems interfaces, and remote access.

SECONDARY TASKS:

  • Diligently monitors for unintended project scope creep and reports Change Order opportunities to the Project Manager.

  • Demonstrates a high level of understanding of both basic and advanced process control concepts and technologies.

  • Proactively enforces Yokogawa procedures (ISO, GES, Safety, etc.) and project work methodologies for all engineering activities. Participates in the creation and maintenance of Yokogawa work procedures.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of industry standards and emerging practices that apply to control systems and to automation in general.

  • Demonstrates proficiency with the engineering builder functions and operator interface features of two or more types of Yokogawa control systems.

  • Demonstrates knowledge about the hardware architecture of two or more types of Yokogawa systems. Demonstrates knowledge of legacy Yokogawa or non-Yokogawa systems.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Yokogawa-wide products and proactively suggests value added opportunities to Sales and customers.

  • Participates in in-house and external training and learning activities as directed by the Engineering Manager. Prepares materials and conducts training sessions.

  • Prepares, presents papers, and/or participates in Yokogawa or external industry conferences or meetings.

  • Serves as a personal example of frugal and efficient time management, and reports time promptly and accurately as required by company policies.

  • Understands, follows and continuously promotes safe work practices.

  • Travels 20% to 50% of the time.

  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Education & Experience: BS degree in Engineering or other relevant disciplines and 10 or more years of experience or MS degree in Engineering or other relevant disciplines and 8 or more years of experience. Work credit may be credited for a PhD.

Qualifications: This position is recognized as a subject matter expert across the organization, and in some cases the industry, providing insight and possibly supervision to cross-functional teams. Additionally, must be able to work with internal and/or external clients in understanding their needs. The ability to effectively initiate, develop, and oversee complex ideas, design concepts, proposals, procedures, project and design reviews is considered critical for success in this role.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the environment is reasonable. Physical Demand: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is required to talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
