Established in 1978, SWCHC provides a wide range of health care services such as primary health care, health promotion, community development, mental health, and harm reduction. What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Manager of Children and Youth Services, the Community Programmer: Youth Leadership will assist in developing programming and co-facilitates the Youth Leadership Program; providing field placement guidance and support, and to assist in the development of youth led community initiatives within a community development framework.

What We’re Looking For
Life and Work Experience

Experience and proven success working with youth 13-18yrs.

Experience and flexibility working in diverse community-based programs with families facing multiple health risks and barriers.
Your Education Path
-
Current Standard First Aid, CPR level C
Required Language
-
Fluency in English required.
-
Working knowledge of French an asset.
Specific requirements
- Be between 18-30 years of age, at the start of the position
- Police check for working with vulnerable populations no older than 6 months
- Authorized to work in Canada

- Strong knowledge of youth development
- Effective at communicating and problem solving
- Knowledge of community resources

Your Day-to-Day at a Glance
As our Community Programmer: Youth Leadership your responsibilities are:
- Assists in planning and implements activities that enhance positive leadership qualities, preparing youth 13-18 yrs. to become volunteers
- Creates opportunities for youth to reflect on their well-being and potential
- Liaisons with SWCHC staff and other community partners if needed
- Assists in conducting recruitment, registration, maintain files and daily attendance
- Assists in monitoring and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment for programming
- Ensures all programming meets Health and Safety Standards

Priority is given to individuals with unique needs, including single parent families, those who are financially insecure, new Canadians, and persons coping with various disabilities. SWCHC welcomes and supports individuals of all gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, and ethnicities.
SWCHC serves a large multicultural area in Ottawa's centre west, including Dalhousie, Hintonburg, Mechanicsville, and West Wellington, with a population of approximately 40,000 persons. Much of the community's population is made up of new immigrants to Canada, who face many struggles which for many include a lack of English language skills.
