Financial Accountant (Trainee)

We’re seeking a Financial Accountant (Trainee) to join our head office located in Vernon, British Columbia. Our head office houses Tolko’s corporate services groups including Sales, Marketing & Logistics, Finance, Accounting & Credit, IT, Procurement and Human Resources.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • Degree in business with an appropriate accounting specialty or equivalent combination of education and business experience.

  • Enrolled in or working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA).

  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and cost accounting.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office.

  • Exceptional analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Detailed oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Proven ability to think logically and solve problems effectively.

  • Collaborative and proactive thinking.

  • Possess a high level of integrity and confidentiality.

  • Experience working with JDE financial systems and/or other financial ERP systems is considered an asset.

  • General knowledge of the forest industry is an asset.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare month end financial statements, journal vouchers, variance analysis, fixed asset and trend reporting on a consistent and accurate basis.

  • Create and maintain financial statements and analytical reports as required.

  • Calculate and/or review related accruals and payment vouchers.

  • Analyze assigned balance sheet accounts.

  • Prepare external audit working papers.

  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis and reports in a timely manner in response to queries from interested parties.

  • Prepare government and external reporting requirements (e.g. Statistics Canada and industry surveys) as required.

  • Assist and back up Financial Accountants as needed.

  • Respond to requests and provide analysis/information to support leadership, operations sectors or departments.

  • Build trusted relationships with key business partners.
