Position Details
The Information Technology Team is currently seeking a Network & Systems Administrator to join our team. The Network & Systems Administrator will be responsible for leading all IT Security, Cloud, and Network projects that drive efficiencies or improve processes within the organization. Design, create and monitor the implementation of end-to-end integrated systems using a large variety of technologies. Ensure that all planned and in-place system architectures are aligned with the specific EEC yearly and long-term goals. Provide expertise, assistance and mentoring to other IT personnel and develop plans for investing in systems that will increase cost effectiveness and flexibility. The Network and Systems Administrator will consult with IT leadership, end-users, vendors, business partners and tenants to further the development and maturity of IT services. They will also be tasked with the reliable and secure operations of the organization’s network, cloud environments, and Linux/Windows servers.
The Information Technology department is part of our Corporate Services Group. This group is a team of service-minded individuals who are passionate about developing and implementing smart, customer-focused business processes. This team serves multiple internal customers and comprises key business enablers and trusted business partners who deliver superior customer service through collaboration, innovation, partnerships, and leadership, ensuring the best possible user experience. In alignment with the needs of Explore Edmonton, services include providing governance advice and support, offering scalable business solutions, and creating value for employees by building and facilitating connections across the organization.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- The reliable operations of the Explore Edmonton network
- Switch, router, and firewall configuration on various platforms, including Fortinet, Juniper, Mist, Aruba, Cisco, & Comware
- The configuration and management of SD-WAN, SASE, VPN tunnels, IPAM, and P2P radio links
- Creating & maintaining comprehensive network documentation and diagrams.
- Researching and implementing new tools, applications, and software/vendor solutions
- Programming and scripting. (Powershell, Python, YAML, etc.)
- Collaborating with stakeholders to understand and document security requirements, evaluate potential risks to data, software, and hardware, and develop appropriate safeguards.
- Implementing encryption techniques and managing cryptographic keys to ensure data security during storage and transmission.
- Deploying, configuring, and managing security tools such as firewalls, antivirus software, cloud security products, SASE, CASB, MDR/XDR, and automated threat detection/prevention systems to ensure the organization’s cybersecurity posture remains robust.
- Continuously monitor network traffic and system logs for signs of cyber threats, intrusions, or unauthorized activities and take necessary action to mitigate risks.
- Developing and executing security response strategies aligned with organizational incident response protocols to protect critical information and IT infrastructure.
- M365, Azure, and AWS infrastructure administration
- Linux and Windows administration, including on-premises and cloud-based servers & VMs
- Maintaining, configuring, and reliably operating computer systems, servers, data centre power systems, and virtualization platforms, including Azure and Hyper-V
- The integration of information systems, process control software and other embedded software control systems.
- Developing data, process and network models to optimize architecture and to evaluate the performance and reliability of designs
- Monitoring and managing SaaS, server, and database performance
The successful candidate will have:
- Post-secondary education in Information Technology or Computer Science
- 5+ years of related experience
- Proven experience developing strategic infrastructure architecture plans with an emphasis on security, reliability, and scalability
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience conducting research on technology, trends, standards, and products research
- Solid track record in prioritizing and executing tasks when under pressure
- Experience with Servers, Firewalls, Switches, Wireless access points/controllers, and IT Power Systems
- Knowledge of VPN, VOIP, SASE, CASB, network switching, and network routing
- Mobile device management and conditional access policies
- Familiar with Windows and Linux system administration and virtualized environments
- Ability to take business requirements and deliver solutions
- Programming/Scripting (Python, PowerShell, SQL, YAML, etc)
- Extensive experience with cloud infrastructure and services. AWS/Azure, Microsoft 365, SharePoint.
- The ability to create clear documentation
- Flexibility with travel between Explore Edmonton locations
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Customer-focused mindset
- The ability to work in a team environment
