Construction
Project Manager
Yes
Main Responsibilities
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Construction Foreman oversees all aspects of their assigned project. The role requires experience in highway maintenance and construction activities, including guardrail installation, permanent signage installation, spray patch crack repair, crack sealing (using hot and/or cold applied products), and bridge deck waterproofing.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate job details and assign tasks to crew members.
- Address and resolve issues within the crew while maintaining safety, productivity, and morale.
- Enforce behavioral expectations and uphold a respectful workplace.
- Ensure adherence to OH&S regulations, company policies, and project requirements.
- Conduct or facilitate safety meetings, hazard assessments, and vehicle pre-trip inspections.
- Monitor and enforce safety protocols, including the proper use of logbooks.
- Oversee work quality, productivity, and compliance with customer specifications.
- Inspect, measure, and document completed work.
- Prepare accurate daily production and costing reports.
- Collaborate with the Superintendent on project quantities and requirements.
- Liaise with the safety department regarding injuries, equipment incidents, or near misses.
- Work with the Superintendent on equipment and personnel needs.
- Track and input daily time cards.
- Complete WCB reports and document scope changes or extra work via email.
- Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, and discipline.
- Conduct or support training in areas such as safety, excavation, utility work, and traffic accommodation.
- Perform job site inspections during visits to other foremen’s sites.
- Coordinate with the Construction Superintendent, consultants, and customers on project specifics, including change orders.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent.
Qualifications Education, Training, Diplomas, and Certifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
- Class 3 driver’s license with a current driver’s abstract required.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the road construction industry.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in basic equipment maintenance.
- Familiarity with local general construction specifications and best practices.
- Experience with HCSS costing software.
- Knowledge of basic business communication etiquette.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence and professionalism.
- Sound decision-making and judgment abilities.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Adaptability, flexibility, and problem-solving capabilities.
Working Conditions
- Travel as required.
- Overtime as required.
- Use of personal protection equipment is required.
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol policy.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements.
- Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Driving long distances unaccompanied.
