Position Description
The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Educator at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The JGH Division of General Internal Medicine is composed of a dynamic group of sub-specialists supporting the JGH’s mandate to provide high-quality patient-centered care. We have excellent programs in clinical care, medical education, quality improvement, and medical research. Our focus is on the care of patients with acute and complex medical disorders and have focused clinical programs in perioperative medicine, thrombosis medicine, medical obstetrics, and cardiovascular health. The JGH Division is committed to building a medical obstetrics program to add to its clinical and academic missions, and to grow the medical obstetrics program within the McGill Division.

. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration.
As a Clinician-Teacher, the successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching.
The successful candidate will devote 65% of their time to clinical activity, 25% to teaching, and 10% to scholarship/research. Clinical duties include contribution to the Division’s inpatient services on clinical units and consultation services, as well as developing and formalizing a clinical inpatient and outpatient consultation program in medical obstetrics.
The candidate is also expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (teaching and supervision of clinical trainees and involvement in academic and administrative committees) and will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in these activities.
McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Candidates must:
- Hold an MD degree and must have completed subspecialty training in General Internal Medicine;
- Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Internal Medicine;
- Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
- Have further advanced training in Obstetrical Medicine;
- Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire these language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
