Job Summary:
The Safety Duty Manager is responsible for ensuring the daily airport operation runs in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manager. The Duty Manager will oversee and coordinate team activities to create a safe, reliable, efficient, and effective operation.

Job Duties:

  • Models Unifi’s safety goals, mission, vision, and values, championing a strong safety-first culture across all operations.
  • Leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Promotes adherence to safety standards through effective communication, training, and engagement initiatives.
  • Oversees and coordinates all safety-related activities within the operation, ensuring alignment with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitors and enforces a safe and compliant working environment in accordance with Transport Canada, WestJet, and all applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Conducts regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments; identifies hazards and implements corrective and preventive actions.
  • Investigates incidents, accidents, and near-misses; ensures proper documentation, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions.
  • Coaches, counsels, and mentors employees and leaders on safety practices, compliance, and accountability.
  • Ensures compliance with Unifi Safety, Anti-Harassment, and Equal Employment Opportunity policies.
  • Collaborates with operational leadership to integrate safety into daily operations and decision-making processes.
  • Monitors safety performance metrics and trends; prepares and presents reports to senior leadership.
  • Leads safety training programs, ensuring all employees meet regulatory and company safety requirements.
  • Maintains accurate safety records, training documentation, and compliance reports.
  • Partners with HR and operations on return-to-work programs, workplace accommodations, and injury prevention initiatives.
  • Oversees contractor and vendor safety compliance where applicable.
  • Responsible for making informed decisions that align with organizational goals and safety standards.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with regulatory agencies and union representatives.
  • Promotes a proactive reporting culture and continuous safety improvement mindset.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the scope of the role.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent education.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to obtain credentials required as per local authorities.
  • Supervisory experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of relevant work experience in the aviation or ground handling services industry.

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to frequently push, pull, stoop, squat, kneel, bend, lift up to 70lbs and move up to 70lbs; and constantly walk, stand, handle, grasp and reach out. May have to reach above shoulder occasionally.

Working conditions:

  • You will need to have flexibility in your schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. We operate 365 24/7 operations.
  • Enjoy the outdoors on a daily basis (sun, rain, sleet or snow!) May be exposed to a wide variety of weather conditions, jet and machinery noises, fumes, dirt and dust for extended periods.
  • Must be willing and able to travel as operationally needed.
