The successful candidate will be able to manage their time effectively, work both alone and in a team, be punctual, reliable, and trustworthy. The incumbent will have the ability to perform and develop good cleaning methods with knowledge of chemicals and safe workplace practices. Reporting to the Campus Manager, Moosonee, the Caretaker will provide cleaning services in all areas of the college campus. They will perform caretaking and some minor grounds-keeping duties in addition to moving and setting up furniture and equipment. The incumbent will ensure that buildings and property are secure, floors and walkways are safe, and rubbish is removed on a regular basis to ensure attractive and suitable surroundings for staff and students. The incumbent will provide access to the building for students and community events on the weekends. What you will be doing: Dust, washes and polishes office and classroom furnishings, cleans and disinfects washroom facilities. Replenishes basic classroom and washroom supplies; Vacuum, sweep and mop floors as appropriate, empty waste baskets and removes trash. Maintain floors through surface cleaning, spray buffing and polishing. Maintain carpets including performing minor repairs; May be required to shovel snow and controls ice problems as required. Perform basic grounds maintenance as required. Operate equipment required for the above tasks; and May be required to perform minor repairs to buildings and equipment as appropriate. What you will need to be considered: High school diploma or equivalent; and One (1) year experience working as a building caretaker. Please note this position qualifies under Northern College’s protocol for hiring in remote regions. Candidates with relevant experience and who do not meet the education requirements may be given consideration based on relevant equivalent qualifications.
