Position Title: Early Childhood Educator (ECE) – Tsay Keh Dene, BC
Reports To: Director of Health & Wellness
Department: Health & Wellness
Position Type: Full time
Hours of Work: 35 Hours/Week Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Summary:
This position will be working out of the Tsay Keh Dene Community and reporting to the Manager of Health Wellness. This position will be responsible for supervising and guiding the Head Start Assistant in developing appropriate lessons for children from infancy to preschool, in a variety of educational subjects and life skills which could include music, art, social science, literature, physical activity, personal hygiene and healthy eating habits.

Job Duties:
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Ensure appropriate curriculum implementation and improvements of teaching performance including supervision of up to twelve (12) children and one (1) staff member
· Review and assist teachers in the development of yearly goals and objectives
· Identify and assist teachers in meetings their performance needs
· Monitor Head Start and AIDP staff performance
· Review and assist teachers in the development of classroom lesson plans
· Conduct post-observation conferences to assist teachers in improving instructional competencies
· Develop and assist with the delivery of age appropriate programs
Personnel:
· Rate employment performance and prescribed goals for improvement
· Conduct summary evaluations of staff
· Communicate constructive feedback in regards to requirements, concerns, and/or clarifications to the role performance
· Assist staff in establishing future performance goals and objectives
Staff Development:
· Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of all Head Start & AIDP staff members
· Develop and implement a staff Development Strategy for the entire Head Start & AIDP Program
· Assess staff performance essentials
· Communicate staff development requirements the Head Start & AIDP staff
· Monitor Student Behavior by means of development and implementation of center-wide student behavior policies and procedures
Requirements:
Education and Experience
· College Diploma in the Human Services field including – Early Childhood Education (ECE), Educational Assistance (EA) or a related field is preferred.
· Relating training in the area of children with special needs and/or Under 3 Training
· Minimum five (5) years with integrated groups of preschool aged children
· Demonstrated excellent competencies in oral and written communication skills
· Ability to effectively interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Ability to communicate in English is required
· Must successfully complete and pass a Criminal Record check
· Knowledge and understand the School Board Policies, Compliance Regulations and appropriate Legislation.
· First Aid certified preferred
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· High energy level
· Genuinely committed to the development and facilitation of children learning improvement and advancement
· A board knowledge of child development and teaching methods
· Cultural sensitivity
· Excellent problem solving skills
· Excellent negotiation and mediation skills
· Ability and willingness to perform required physical tasks
· Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of the learners
· Ability to maintain confidentiality, honesty and integrity at all times
· Strong ability to prioritize tasks and meet set deadlines
· High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite and computer usage.
· Highly self-motivating and dedication to continual learning and development
Work Conditions:
· Interacts with students, teachers, administration, family member, visitors, government agencies/personal under all circumstances
· Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
· Regular to frequent requirement and as needed to lift children (up to 45 lbs.) including bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing and pulling and sitting and waling
· Noise level can be moderate to loud
· Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting students
