Job Description INTERNAL AUDITOR Victoria

We are looking for a curious, analytical, and collaborative Internal Auditor to join our Internal Audit team. In this role, you will help strengthen governance, risk management, and internal controls across the organization while working closely with leaders at all levels. You will work both independently and as a team to perform audit and advisory activities, ensuring findings are adequately documented and in conformance with BC Ferries Internal Audit procedures.

Reporting to the Manager, Internal Audit and working closely with the Executive Director, Internal Audit, you will play a key role in evaluating processes, identifying improvement opportunities, and supporting data-driven insights that help the organization operate effectively and responsibly.

The Role Reporting to the Manager, Internal Audit , you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Preparing work papers documenting procedures performed and fully supporting audit findings;
  • Assessing risks and controls, carrying out analyses and procedural reviews across financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and operations;
  • Performing consulting and audit activities including planning, preliminary surveys, opening meetings, engagement risk assessments, fieldwork, closing meetings, and preparing audit reports in compliance with BC Ferries Internal Audit procedures;
  • Preparing audit reports that effectively communicate results and making necessary revisions in a timely manner;
  • Supporting or leading the data analytics continuous monitoring program using ACL or other data analytics tools;
  • Participating in the annual audit planning process, including the risk assessment process;
  • Contributing to the enhancement of organizational policies and procedures;
  • Applying expert knowledge of BC Ferries Internal Audit procedures to achieve audit objectives;
  • Highlighting and interpreting weaknesses in the internal control system where areas do not comply with standards and procedures;
  • Performing peer reviews of internal audits as part of the Quality Assurance Improvement Program;

What You Bring To The Team

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline
  • Recognized accounting designation, Chartered Professional Accounting CPA and/or you are working towards or have successfully completed the advanced professional auditing certification CIA
  • Certified Fraud Examiner CFE or Certified Information System Auditor CISA designations considered an asset
  • 4+ years of experience in a professional auditing role or comparable experience
  • Proven experience in internal and/or external auditing, internal controls assessment and testing
  • Experience with IT and system audits and fraud investigation
  • Experience with corporate governance regulation and IFRS
  • Proficiency with data analytics considered an asset
