Position Summary:

The Electronics Engineering Technologist is responsible for providing corrective and preventive maintenance, and installation of electronic and mechanical/electrical equipment throughout the Hospital.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installation, testing and troubleshooting of electronic equipment.
  • Assist in selecting electronic equipment, components or systems to meet functional specifications.
  • Disassembling equipment and repairing or replacing faulty components.
  • Utilize software programs and applications for set up and maintenance of specialized electronic systems within the Facilities Management portfolio.
  • Provide IT network support to include cable installation and termination.
  • Offering assistance and/or instruction to co-workers.
  • Directing suggestions, criticism, and questions to appropriate person.
  • Liaise with external service providers where required to maintain critical Hospital systems.
  • Estimating quantities of required materials, quotation compilation and prepare requisitions.
  • Comprehending a wide range of technical subjects and coordinate details.
  • Completing work orders and the associated reporting documents.
  • Knowledge of all Hospital systems including, but not limited to, medical air and vacuum systems, emergency power distribution, Code Blue, Code White, nurse call, video and security systems, and building automation systems (BAS).
  • Providing a non-supervised call-back service as required by the hospital as per policy and procedure manual, including basic electrical/mechanical, and building service repairs.

Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Facilities Management.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Diploma in a recognized 3 year Electronics/Electrical Engineering Technologist Program required.
  • Membership with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists (OACETT) or willing to get within six (6) months of hire required.

Experience:

  • Minimum two years' experience in direct practical repair with knowledge of solid state circuits and associated applications is required.
  • Experience working in a Hospital/Healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Experience in repairing other mechanical components and equipment is preferred.
  • Experience in repair and installation of computer equipment associated with Facilities Management systems is preferred.

Competencies:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in nurse call systems, security systems, code white, and infant abduction systems specific to health care.
  • Demonstrated sound leadership, resourcefulness, and communication skills in English both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated emotional stability, maturity, self-confidence, reliability, dependability, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions and accept supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to sustain pressure of work and flexibility in ordering/re-ordering priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, independently, and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and operational maintenance manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, organize, and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to extend courtesy and consideration for others in interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated professional manner in work setting.
