At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID).

Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members:

Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.

Thrive together: We want you—the unique, authentic you—to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs.

Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development.

About the role

As ATB's next Associate Director, Counterparty Credit Risk, you will join the small but rapidly growing Financial Risk Management (FRM) team. This is an all-hands-on-deck environment where every voice contributes to improving and enabling better risk management. As a smaller FI, we rely on being innovative to efficiently compete with the larger players. The culture is highly supportive, where a learning mindset and an innovative approach are highly valued.

This pivotal role will transform our risk oversight from a compliance-focused approach to one that provides valuable analytical insights. You will actively monitor and manage exposure levels, ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of our Potential Future Exposure (PFE) modeling framework, and serve as a subject matter expert in the dynamic landscape of traded credit risk.

The FRM team operates in a hybrid work environment with core members spread across Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto, giving you the flexibility to learn from and work with a variety of talented professionals. The team’s rapid growth means you'll have unparalleled opportunities to both learn and support related areas while quickly developing into a role of greater responsibility.

  • Stress Testing
    • Contribute to the buildout and ongoing refinement of a stress testing framework.
    • Ensure that scenarios are appropriately calibrated for the breadth and complexity of CCR at ATB, and assess the impact of these scenarios on our credit portfolios.

    • Monitor and report Potential Future Exposure (PFE) levels, escalating breaches to key stakeholders.
    • Provide oversight of trading book collateral, focusing on key terms like Minimum Transfer Amount (MTA), Margin Period of Risk (MPR), and thresholds that influence collateral exchange forecasts.
    • Provide coverage and support in developing the XVA area in close collaboration with the XVA team.
    • Conduct regular reviews of the portfolio to identify concentrations of risk and ensure alignment with our risk appetite and policies.

  • Advise & Inform
    • Recommend traded credit limits to senior leadership and credit committees, fostering a consensus approach with key stakeholders.
    • Provide comprehensive analysis on risk trends, relating them back to the CCR risk profile and articulating respective desk strategy around pertinent risk mitigation.
    • Communicate complex risk concepts and report findings clearly to various audiences, including traders, senior management, and control functions.
  • Review & Implement
    • Review Credit Support Annex (CSA) documents and collaborate with respective credit teams to ensure their terms are accurately reflected in our trading systems and downstream risk systems..
    • Participate in new product assessments, strategic risk architecture enhancements, and ensure that key details like Minimum Transfer Amounts (MTAs) and thresholds are correctly implemented.
    • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of risk policies, frameworks, and procedures, including creating new policies where they do not currently exist, with a focus on practical implementation and efficiency.
