Project Manager, Transmission Projects

position

working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

The Senior Project Manager

 

will lead a portfolio of large and complex multi-year Transmission projects and programs to support system growth and capital maintenance, as outlined in the General Tariff Application (GTA). Responsibilities include managing budgets, securing approvals, coordinating resources, and overseeing execution in alignment with regulatory and corporate standards. The role also includes team leadership responsibilities such as coaching and mentoring junior project staff to build overall capability within the Transmission Program Management group, while ensuring safe and efficient project delivery through proactive issue resolution and stakeholder collaboration.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Contribute to the Transmission Projects Business Plan and support GTA filing processes, including capital business cases and post-implementation reviews

  • Plan and execute Transmission projects in alignment with regulatory and delivery standards

  • Conduct project kick-off meetings for all Ensure project requirements, schedules and any site-specific safety and environmental requirements or restrictions are clearly communicated to all parties

  • Develop project governance documents (PMP, CPJS, PPR) with clear scope, assumptions, and budget baselines

  • Prepare and present project approvals and updates to internal committees, including the Financial Review Committee and Project Monitoring Committee

    as required

  • Manage regulatory and permitting requirements with external stakeholders including but not limited to: AESO, AUC, City of Edmonton, Alberta Infrastructure, Alberta Environment, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, other regulatory and government agencies

  • Co

    llaborate

    with internal and external stakeholders to align schedules, secure resources, and ensure regulatory compliance

  • Monitor project progress through site visits, stakeholder communication, and monthly schedule and forecast updates

    ;

    conduct routine safety inspections on projects sites documenting any deficiencies found and required corrective actions.

  • Ensure compliance with EDTI procurement, regulatory, safety, and legal requirements when hiring external contractors ensuring adequate qualifications, cost minimization, and proper contractor management

  • Mentor junior project staff and support continuous improvement of team processes and documentation

What’s required to be successful

  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with Power System Engineering option (preferred) or equivalent P.L.(Eng.)

  • Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation desired

  • 10

    years of progressively responsible experience in electrical transmission systems required, including

    project management,

    direct design or construction experience

  • In-depth

    knowledge of substation and transmission line construction methods,

    procedures, work practices and techniques required

  • Experience in project management of complex utility

    projects

  • Experience in planning and executing new initiatives required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Ivara, e-scheduler)

  • Proven experience in procurement (RFPs, tendering, contract negotiation/administration), permitting, environmental assessments, and stakeholder engagement

  • Skilled in managing complex budgets, schedules, and matrix-organized project teams

  • Strong decision-making and stakeholder relationship management abilities

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence others

  • Collaborative team player with the ability to thrive in dynamic environments
